BIA test

At PNC support group on Wednesday I mentioned a test I had done to measure my lean body mass vs. my fat body mass and I have to admit I pronounced part of it incorrectly.  It is called a Biometrical Impedence Analysis (BIA) and gets your measurements by the sending a tiny little electrical current (I didn't feel anything) through your body.  I found out that my Lean Body Mass whi*****ludes muscles, bones, and organs is 132.4 and my Fat Body Mass is 64.6.  Well, after hearing what Barb had to say I thought about these numbers and realized my goal weight of 130 is not possible.  I talked to my sister and she said I could not loose all of my fat mass so I am going to set a new goal of 140.  Ultimately for me my goal will be to wear the same size clothes as my sisters so I am not going to focus on the number on the scale quite so much.  I was amazed to find out that I am 64% Lean and only 36% Fat!  I think this is the lowest my fat % has ever been!  I am happy with these numbers, but am in no way planning on staying here!  I would love to have a fat % of 10 or 15%!  Well, I am off to go learn all about nutrition and do some yoga!  Have a great weekend!

I wonder if I could get my doctor to order that test.... might help me a lot. You are so dedicated, and very smart. Good luck at class tomorrow, you will be missed.

I am not short... I am fun sized!!

I am not sure if your doctor's office would have it, but it doesn't hurt to ask!  I have become determined to really make the most out of this second chance at life I have been given and my sister is the one who has challenged me to learn, learn, learn!  Thank you....have some coffee or whatever your drink of choice is for me!  Love & Hugs! I think all of our doctor's should be using that test to help us find our ideal weights....that sounds great! Jennifer

Jennifer~I agree, I would have never guessed that my lean body mass weighed that much!  I remember somewhere on this site someone pointed out the fact that after being obese for a long amount of time our bones are denser and weigh more that those who have not been obese.  There is another test that can be done and is very accurate to obtain this information, but it involves being dunked into a swimming pool. Personally I prefer the BIA, plus they are also able to see how healthy our cells are and our hydration level.  The nice thing with this prgram is that I can get my BIA re-checked wheneve I want for free now!  Have a great weekend! ~Nicole

I agree about the test at the doctors office  -- that way we know if we are on course for our body mass.  Thanks Nicole for the info.... XXOO

Not a prolem I am happy to share any and all knowledge that others may find useful!  From talking to my sister the best place to check for this test is the gym because I guess some personal trainers use them to help set realisitic goals for their clients.
