Frozen Peach Update

I spoke to Nadalie this morning, she sounds tired, but said she is doing well. Her surgery actually was 6 hours, she went in at 9:05a and was out at 3:02p.

Her tummy is sore, but she said it mainly feels like she's been doing a lot of ab crunches - that kind of sore. Pain meds are helping! She lucked out and is in a private room. One of her daughters stayed the night with her - so sweet. The nurses walked her last night which was from one side of her bed to the other, and that she said was painful. Today, they will do it again. Her BP is staying down so she hasn't needed her meds and she's hoping she can go home without them, how awesome is that?! And, as Michelle reported, she will be going home Saturday. She said to tell everyone hello for her - so "HELLO".

Amy~Thank you for posting!  I am glad to hear that all went well and that she is starting to get up and walk even if it is just from one side of the bed to the other.  Good to hear she may not need her BP meds any more.  Can't wait until we are reading about you!  ~Nicole  P.S. Does DS usually take that long and have a longer recovery time than RNY?  I know my RNY took 3 hours with my gall bladder being removed.  Just curious to know the difference.

Hi Nicole and thanks. Yep, the DS is a 2-part surgery basically so it does typically take longer, plus Dr. Buchwald does his surgeries all open, so you have to account for that too, I suppose with the suturing after and all. The hospital time with him is your surgery day + 4, so about 5 days at the hospital total. The recovery is 6 weeks on average due to the open cut vs. laparoscopic, but you watch, that Peach she'll blow that figure out of the water! LOL Dr. B. doesn't touch the gallbladder if he doesn't have to because he considers it "dirty" surgery. Great questions!
