The last couple months I have been the Mr. Baker.  For instance last night I made 3 dozen chocolate chip cookies, and a yellow cake with whole made whipped chocolate mouss frosting.  I know that I would dump on any of this in a heart beat .  So with all the minds out there why do you think I would all of a sudden take up baking sweets and deserts?  It's not like I baked in the past. And I'm not tempted to eat any of this either???????? Troy

I've done this all my adult life.  I just love baking.  I don't eat any of it either.  I hate cooking, but I LOVE baking.  Today I'm making pumpkin bread and pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting.  It might be you just need something to do and you enjoy it....doesn't have to be anything behind it.  You can't eat it but others can so just go with the flow. I see that as a nurturing thing...  making things that others like... ?? what you think?  Is your family eating and enjoying perhaps encouraging you to continue?  Are you maybe trying to prove your willpower?  Gawds... could be just about anything!  lol btw, looking good - you are a real inspiration Troy!

Sometimes I enjoy serving up something to DS that I love but won't eat just because I know he'll love it and I get some pleasure from seeing him enjoy it. Is this eating vicariously? But who cares, it seems like a harmless act.

You are getting enjoyment out of it-and you aren't eating it, so I don't see that is is a problem.  It's kinda like me at the grocery store-I love to look at all the pastries at Byerly's, but don't need to eat them. I will sometimes buy one for my son or daughter but for me that is dangerous because I don't dump bad enough to not take a bite!  But I can look at all the sweets without having to take them home and eat them.  Hmmmm...mental eating?  maybe.  and yeah, I think you are doing a nurturing thing too.

I LOVE to cook!  I went through a big phase of baking though about 6 months post op.  My boys love cinnimon rolls so I was making  homeade ones from scratch a couple days a week.  I was making homemade pretzels, cookies, etc.   Never had a one but enjoyed making them.  Go figure! lol Michelle

I do the exact same thing!  It doesn't help that my 9 year old has started to show an interest in cooking and baking.  So, I've been Mrs. Baker, and I must admit that my co-workers love it.  I've brought in cookies, cupcakes, brownies, and even a whole lasagne for lunch in the last two weeks.  I don't eat all of the things that I make, but I know that I am a nurture type person.  Since I have kid that likes to try things in the kitchen, I do what I can to nurture her curiosity, and at the same time, teach her how to make these items with healthier choices.  So, we use Splenda, but still call it sugar.  We talk about how much sugar we're putting in the cookies and cakes.  When the items are done, we 'do the math' about how much of each ingredient is in each cookie or piece of cake.  (Have I ever said how much I really hate dividing fractions?)  I use baking, especially things that my friends and family like, as part of a bigger social aspect also.  Pre-surgery, I was known for my cakes at work.  I was asked to bring them in for every event.  I still am asked, and still like to bring them in.  Just because I can't eat it, or only the smallest bite of some of it, doesn't mean that I can't enjoy making things.  It's my only hobby that I can do by myself.

For me I love being around it....looking at it and smelling it and thats enough for me !! I think with me its not being a slave to stuff like that and not feeling like I cant make it cos Ill eat it. If that makes any sense!

Troy I was thinking about that while I was helping prepare the food for our Mom's day BBQ. I think for me it was a way of taking part in the food part of the celebration and enjoying the food with out actually eating it. I know it sounds weird but it was one theory I came up with for myself anyway!

Here comes another one of Darla's theories... I'm guessing you always liked baking, but maybe you avoided it when you were the fat dude because of the stigma of fat guys being cooks/bakers/chefs???  And now that you're the svelt dude, you can indulge in the pleasure of baking, knowing you won't sabotage your health OR be looked at as the fat cook/baker/chef dude!!!? Makes sense in my pea-brain!
