.. and helpful comments. I am doing a bit better with the LD; I've added some vegetables to my broth and may have some lettuce and tomato today. Yesterday I was dizzy in the late afternoon and I think it was because of the diet.  Anyway, I'm not losing much weight with this LD, am I supposed to? I believe I'm shrinking my liver because I'm following the diet pretty well, but does shrinking the liver equal weight loss? I know my doctor doesn't have a thing about me having to lose a certain amount of weight before surgery. So I'm sure I will still have it even if I don't lose weight.  Am I deluding myself by adding some veggies? I don't add any fat or eat high starch veggies.

Welcome Wendy, My 10 day liquid diet was only liquids, no veggies, lettuce, or tomatoes.  Carnation Instant Breakfast, Boost, broth, SF popsicles, juice. What did your Dr. advise? I only lost 4 lbs., my body loved holding onto the weight.

Most doctors don't want you eating anything solid during the LD phase - you may want to check with your doctor about it.   SF Jello, SF pudding and SF popcicles were as "solid" as I was allowed to go.  Keep us updated on how it is going...we want you to succeed in this as well as post-surgery, so if you have to come here to not think about eating/chewing - please do!  We love to chat on here!

Wendy,  Not to be the nag, but if you have to chew anything, then it's NOT a liquid.  And I don't think being capable of swallowing small chunks excuses the fact.

Don't mess up - surgeons have been known to cancel surgeries if their patients couldn't follow the LD.  Maybe because it didn't do what they needed it to do for them physically, maybe because it tells them that the patient wasn't truly ready for the changes WLS requires one to make.  If you are having issues with feeling ready, you need to address those PRE-op - but NOT by sabotaging your LD! Don't mean to be harsh, just offering you a gentle kick in the fanny.  NO SOLID FOOD!!!

Some people lose weight while others don't. It's a MIRACLE that I am..... because my weight usually holds on for dear life. But no solids... I am on shakes....vary your shakes and you should do fine. I have had a tendency to get dizzy with a lack of food but I am doing pretty good. Broth at night with a few popsicles.... and shakes and CrystalLight all day long. Not bad.
Good luck! We can do this together!!

Liquids only...that is why it is a liquid diet. Don't add anything. You need to talk with your nutritionist if you are still having problems with this. You don't want to mess this up for yourself and have to do it all over again. Hugs, connie d

I did call the doctor/nutritionist today. They said it was ok to eat a few vegetables if I didn't add any fat and not to have any high starch veggies, like potatoes. She even said I could have a little chicken but I'm not going there. Just some veggies in the broth. I am watching it very carefully. I have no intention of screwing this up.

I agree whole heartedly with everyone else.  If it can be chewed it's not a liquid.  My doc told me if I ate anything he would cancel the surgery.  You don't want to get there and find out the surgery wasn't done because you didn't shrink the liver enough or had too much food in your bowel/intestines. Call your nut and get advice on how to prevent the headaches and such.
