Skin

Hi Everyone:
I have been trying hard on counting points, etc with WW but I am failing miserably.  So putting the WLS idea back to the front of my brain.
My questions today are............how have you dealt with extra 'skin' once you have lost all your weight or does it just go back to normal? Does anyone deal with low blood sugar?  I am concerned about that when the time comes to do the liquid diet....
Hope all is well, talk soon

I have the skin issue as do most of us.  It's easy to cover with clothes.  I wear 3/4 length sleeves and no short shorts.  I am a size 8 now and wear small and medium tops, so even with the extra skin I am small.  It bothers me, but I don't have money for plastics.  I am lucky that so far I haven't had any rashes...we'll see how summer goes. I am diabetic.  I had low bs after wls, but then the doc took me off the insulin and within a few weeks I was fine.  I was also adjusting to being at a lower bs number.  My doc said that if you are used to 150, 90 will feel horrible until your body adjusts to it.  But 90 is normal, now I run in the 70's most of the time and I feel great!  Your doc will adjust any meds you are taking when you start the LD, plus you can "eat" liquids with carbs in them to help bring up your bs. On a positive note regarding diabetes...my doc told me 10 days ago that my A1C was only 5.7 and that legally if asked on an insurance form or something, I can say I am not diabetic.  He says I am not considered diabetic any longer, I have diabetic tendencies and of course time and old age can bring it back on later in life. Thanks Darla, I've been patting myself on the back so much for that, that my shoulders are hurting!!!  I am just so proud of it.  I've been diabetic for over 10 years and I've never been below 6.6.  I can't wait to see my pcp next week, he is going to GUSH!!  Oh how I hate being gushed over!!!  NOT!!!  He was against the WLS at first and I had to spend months of seeing him to convince him to sign off on it.  I'm hoping that when he sees me at nearly 140 and and A1C of 5.7 he will be glad he signed off and I will feel like I've won!!!  HA HA HA HA HA Love and hugs to you my dear friend, Debi

I have a lot of extra skin but don’t get rashes that often so as of right now insurance won’t cover surgery.  I’m in 10-12 right now but could easily be 8-10 or even a 6. Shirts are 12; large.  I HATE summer because of all the short tight shirts, I have skin that hangs over the jeans (not because there to tight) but there is no where for it to go.  My arms and legs I can live with it’s just all the skin around my waist.  Winter and sweatshirts are my friend!

I tried the 5 day pouch test last week and I can not do that.  My blood sugars dropped to 43 and I thought I was going to die or pass out one of the two.  Even though I drink coffee and eat a few to many sweets my body thought I was starving it or something.   Anyways I’m not a diabetic but I do have to watch it.  I’m very sensitive to sugar and sugar alcohol and dump very easily.

Hi Paulie...welcome back. I too am no longer diabetic...that is worth having the  surgery right there! Having my health back and having so much energy that I don't know what to do with it sometimes is so great. Yes I also have lose skin. It bothers me some but not enough to make me feel bad about myself. Skin gets tighter with time but far from what it should be. It has been streatched out so far and for so long it loses its elasticity. I will never wear short shorts again but that is okay too. I am a size 3-4 and loving it!  Don't get obsessed about the skin issue. Being thin and feeling good is better then being obese and feeling lousy. Good luck to you in whatever decision you make for yourself. Hugs.....connie d

Hi Paulie!  Can't help you with the diabetes and low blood sugar, but as far as the extra skin goes.  Sure, I've got it, but I' m 43 and it didn't have a chance to have any elasticity left.  Also, it did bother me quite a bit for awhile and I didn't think it would, but I have to look at it this way.  I would SOOOO much rather have extra skin than having the skin filled out again.  Just the plain and simple truth.  Things I can do now compared to back then, and not just walk, etc., but being able to walk into a normal sized bathroom stall and not have to try and figure out how to get back out with the doors opening in.  Like tying your shoes or getting off the floor.  So, I'll take the extra skin over being fluffy anyday.  Good luck with your decision.  It is yours and only you can make it.
Hugs And Kisses Pam
