Sister's Challenge

I talked to my older sister last night and she proposed a challenge for me, her, my younger sister and our mom...we are going to walk a marathon in October!  I guess in the April issue of Prevention magazine there was an article talking about the Des Moines Marathon and they are going to have a team of people walking it.  The article also spells out the training for it which will start in June.  My mom agreed to do the 1/2 marathon, but my sisters and I are going for the full marathon!  I can't believe it!  I believe this means I will be stepping up how often I walk/jog each week along with my regular yoga classes.  Talk about a way to keep me motivated!

I think she said that the one in Des Moines isn't a full marathon (26.2 miles I think) but is 20.5 miles.

Thanks!  I just figured it out and it is about the equivalent of going around Lake Calhoun (where I usually walk) 6 1/2 times!  I really hope to be at the point where I can do that without a problem by October!

You can do it!!  You have time to work up to that point.  Think of how great that will make you feel.  Me still being pre-surgery sometimes going around the block is a marathon!! I'm sure you will do wonderful :) Robyn

Thank you Robyn!  I remember when going around the block was quite the workout, but we all have to start somewhere!  My sister said that the article in Prevention has the whole training schedule laid out so that by the time the marathon comes around you are ready.  I am excited and nervous at the same time!
