Hi to all on the MN board. I don't post much here but read every day. I just wanted to tell you I became a grandma to an adorable little baby boy last Friday (see his pic on my profile). It is SO FUN! Coinciding with this I am turning 50 this week. Something has overcome my brain and I now know exactly what a "mid life crisis" is. I got my belly pierced on Thursday and LOVE IT! I have done other things I cannot say.  Anyone want to share about turning 50? Or crazy things you've done during life's transitions?

Congrats on becoming a grandparent -- I've love being one for 8 years!!!  Grandchildren ARE God's gift for putting up with kids!!!   My mid-life crisis made me look into WLS.  I took a look at myself when I was 49 and wondered whether or not I'd be around for 55.  Scared the crap out of me.  After yet another unsuccessful diet, I looked into WLS right after I turned 50.  Now, at 51, I am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life a LOT healthier.  I have never felt so confident that I will be enjoying retirement in a few years for a long time.  Plenty of time to spend with the little monster grandchild and watching him grow up to become a young man.   THEY ARE A LOT OF FUN -- and them remembering us running around with them is a better memory than sitting there admiring from the sidelines cause we weren't able to PLAY!!!  And those little boys love to PLAY, PLAY, PLAY!!!  Lots of energy -- and sitting and playing teaparty -- UMMMMmmm -- NOT SO MUCH!!!!

Congrats again.....XXOO

Thanks Marsha and Barb! You guys are both looking awesome by the way! It's amazing how quickly the face changes with weight loss. That is what I'm seeing a lot with Lisa.  I love that grandchildren are our reward for putting up with our kids. Too funny and I'm sure true! WLS is a wonderful mid life crisis event. I think my thoughts will actually turn my life toward the better as well. Letting go of my perfectionism is part of it.

Debi, Congratulations on the new grandbaby!!! What a blessing these little guys are!!! I am expecting my 4th in June-July sometime!!! Can hardly wait to meet him!!!  For me, I used to be terrified to turn 50 and although I am just a year away now, (turn 49 in May) I am no longer scared! I have given myself the best gift I could have ever given myself and my family. I want to be around for my 5th, 6th and 7th and so on grandkids!  Not sure if I will do anything like the belly piercing or the 'other unmentionables in a year from now, we will see....maybe i will break down and get a tatoo, I never have gotten one.... Happy birthday Debra!  And congratulations on being a Grandma!  As for 'midlife crises', I turned 52 in January and (thanks to WLS), I feel younger now than I ever did in my 20s, 30s, or 40s!  Inspite of the heavy past, I never had a problem with the 'significant' birthdays:  had a surprise party with a stripper for 30, for 40, I rented a limo and invited seven girlfriends, and for 50, spent five days in Vegas, even won a jackpot the night of by b'day--A nickel-progressive $1,068.25, of which I managed to bring home an even thousand to invest.

Really too bad that media and society put such pressure on the 'staying phycically young', that people in general get too worked up about turning one day older!  FIFTY ISN'T OLD---UNLESS YOU'RE A TREE!  Take care of you, have a great day, and be gentle with yourself hon! Hugs galore, Patti

Never let your memories be greater than your dreams.

Congrats Grandma!  My mom would tell you that grandkids ROCK!  She wishes she'd've had her grandkids before her kids....not possible.  But she loves being a grandma and so will you. Happy 50th Birthday!!  Congrats on the belly piercing!   You're looking great too BTW!! Hugs, Colleen

Much thanks to all of you for cheering my grandmahood and impending 50th BD. For those of you at Park Nicollet.....You know the woman who checks us in? She checked me in today for a fill and noticed my BD was coming up and shared how her 50th was the WORST EVER! She is so funny. I like that lady. By the way.....this fill given to me by Amy has really given me restriction FINALLY so I am very happy about that. I can barely ge****er down but it is going down slowly.

Hi Deb! Well, I personally found turning 50 last year very depressing. I never thought in my whole life that I would be without a 'significant other', as my husband has been deceased for many years.   Probably the WORST thing was that I had to put on my own b'd party, because my kid didn't want to. (dang kid!)  But oh well....I survived. But I like being a grandma! My daughter and her little pistol named Galen (who is gonna be 3 in July) live in Vancouver, and my oldest son, his wife and their 4 month old boy live on Ottawa.  So I don't get to see either grandbaby very often---but when I do I spoil them!  And then give them back to the parents!
