Hello out there- I am just starting out on my journey. I went to PN's info session way back in July 07, procrastinated A LOT about getting the paper work filled out and sent in, but FINALLY got FED UP with being overweight and sent it in a week ago. Now I am wondering how long does it take for them to call me back?? I know it would take 3-4 days or so for them to get it in the mail, and then of course, somebody has to read it all. But when should I expect a call? I am really anxious to get this show on the road, since I know it could be months before surgery. I keep beating myself up for procrastinating so much. I keep thinking that I could have had it done already! I guess that will teach me to procrastinate (probably not but its a nice thought, ) Any other PN patients that can tell me how long it took for them to call you? Thanks bunch!!

It was about 1-2 weeks to get a call back for me from PN. I think it depends on how many folks are starting the process at the same time as you. The whole process for me from that first information session until the time of surgery was 9 1/2 months. This will vary depending on your insurance. My provider had a few extra steps for me that I had to complete over a few months. I actually appreciated the time -- surgery is a big, life-changing step and I'm glad that I took the time to prepare before surgery as I think the changes after surgery weren't as much of a shock as they could have been. Hang in there! Remember it's a journey and it will continue to be even after the surgery! :)

Welcome Jeanette, I went to the seminar in August last summer, sent my initial paperwork in to them within the week and heard from them soon after that.  Then it will depend on what hoops your insurance requires.  For me it took 6 months from seminar to surgery. I used the time to research and get my head ready. Good luck....ask tons of questions.

Hello Jeanette!  Welcome - and congrats on taking the first big step in your journey! I went through Park Nicollet.  If you want, read my profile because I went step by step through the process in my profile.  I believe I submitted my paperwork in February 2007 and got a call back about 10 days later.  From that first call back to my surgery date, the whole process took 3 months.  I hear that is average turnaround time for Park Nicollet.  I can't rave enough about PNC - they are highly organized in the process and the staff is excellent.   Good luck! Oh and some of the others brought up a good point about insurance requirments.  From the time I started the process to surgery it took a year - that's because my insurance required a 6 month Physician assisted diet so I had to get that out of the way first.  Plus I got married in the middle of the process so that slowed things up a bit because I was focused on that.   It won't hurt to call your insurance company and find out exactly what they require - and if they require any kind of pre-op diet so you can get going on that right now. Good luck! Michelle

It goes faster if you call in and ask if they got your packet. :-P But be patient.... because turning in the packet is only the first step. There's a lot more to go through and you have to be ready for it. Park Nicollet is VERY thorough with their testing and paperwork... and it's fantastic. They work together and keep you informed. All of the testing and steps are worth it because they make sure you are REALLY ready. Not just itching for it.... but SERIOUSLY prepared for it. GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks everybody for all the answers! I am really glad I found about this website. It's nice to find a community where everybody is going through the same thing. I feel comfortable to be going with PNC because they are so thorough. I wouldn't want to go through this if I wasn't ready. (Although I didn't research anybody else too much, I have had good experiences with them for everything else). That is a good idea about asking the insurance about requirements, I have called them about coverage, but not requirements. They did say with physician's ok (duh) it would be covered. But it still would be good to find out if they do have any other requirements. I have put this off for so long and I am just anxious to get this first step out of the way. Thanks for all your input again!! I am sure you will be hearing from me again!!
