Has anyone had problems with heartburn after RNY? I am 2 weeks out and I have had it off and on the last few days, was pretty bad last night. I was taking Prilosec daily for Acid Reflux before surgery but surgeon said I didn't need it, my PCP said I should still take it when I went for my pre op physical. I will call the doc but just wondering if anyone alse has had this issue. Thanks and hope to see you all at swapkins tomorrow :)

Some people take it for a month after surgery.  I'd call the doctor if I were you.  Or buy it over the counter for a while. See you tomorow!!!! XXOO

Hey Hon!  Call Doc......this isn't uncommon.  I had to take Prilosec for the first 4-5 months and then just like that no more.  Think about all the rearranging that just went on!  Here's hoping and a praying that it gets better and heals! Love and Hugs!

I was sent home from the hospital with a one month supply of Prilosec and told to take it every day (opening the capsule and swallowing the tiny beads with water). Don't need it now though.

I was told to keep taking mine for a month and after that I didn't need it anymore. But call the doc just in case.

Thanks everyone, I did call the doc and he said I should have been taking it all along! That is not what the nurse at the hospital said but I think she was just anxious to get rid of me! I took a prilosec and am doing better already!

I am glad to hear that your heartburn is doing better.  Sometimes I wonder about the nurses when they are discharging a patient they always seem to just fly through everything in a hurry to get you out the door.  I am pretty sure that it's a PNC thing to be sent home with heartburn meds.  I never had problems with it and was sent home and ordered to take it for a month.  Hope you don't have any more issues with heart burn! Love & Hugs, Nicole
