Which does one choose??

I have a dilemma that I am hoping that all you wonderful people here can help me with. I am 11 days post-op and everything is going well and have moved into the pureed part of my diet.  I don't seem to be having any problems, aside from the first day, with this stage.  Everything is fine there.  But, I am having problems being able to get all my protein in and my 64oz of liquids.  I can only drink about 12-15 oz of liquids in an hour period and i do use protein powder in my soy milk to be able to get all my proteins in.  Does anyone have any suggestions in being able to balance all of this?  How do you get it all in?  What are some of your tricks?  Most of the time I feel so "sloshy" having so many liquids inside of me.  What about when one goes back to work?  Should I be conentrating more on liquids and then proteins?  Proteins and then liquids?  I know they're both very important, but I've been missing either one or the other the past couple days.   Any help would be greatly appreciated and sorry for all the questions! Thank you!

Are you counting your soymilk as your liquids?  Milk does count towards your daily liquids if that helps at all.  How much liquid are you able to get in in a day?  I know that the protien is really important especially right now as your body is trying to heal.  I would say do your best to get both the liquids and protien in and each day it will get a little easier.  Good luck with everything!

Woooo, I must have totally missed that part!!  I had no idea that the soymilk counted towards my liquids intake and never even thought of getting it all in as a problem until I reached this stage.  i can get about 64oz of liquids in a day at the moment so doing that plus my milk was what really had me going.  But if it all counts, I should be okay.  I am feeling so relieved.  Thank you, thank you so much!

Not a problem , glad I could shed some light on the situation!  It seems to be the one thing they forget to tell us when they are giving us all of our post-op rules to live by.  I had asked at one point and that is how I found out.   Love & Hugs! Nicole

I'm not a doctor and do not play one on TV

BUT

here's my opinion:

focus on the liquids more....I think your hydration is more important this early out.  The general rule of thumb on protein is 90 grams by 90 days...with that in mind, you need to be hydrated for oh so many reasons.....

again, not a medical professional - I'm merely basing this on all the research I've done.

GOOD LUCK!

Thank you so much for your thoughts Peach.  I truly appreciate them.  I will definitely keep in mind the 90 grams by 90 days and keep myself hydrated.

Don't stress too much Irma. Right now liquids are more important because it will help flush your system of the toxins that are now being released into your system as your fat burns away. Fat is the locked vault of the body. It remembers every chemical and hormone you have had and it stores it away. So as your body starts to burn it you might go through mood swings, or feel nauseous and queasy. Liquids will help flush that out. Your muscles right now are using your stored energy and your protein will take a while to build up. As Frozen Peach said, you have about 90 days to worry about getting in all you need. Don't ru**** too much right now, you don't want to get in a bad habit of forcing yourself to eat. Good luck and welcome to the losing side of life.

Thank you so much for the input and for the welcome to the losing side.  You're right, i do seem to be forcing it all in and if I don't stop, it will develop into a bad habit.   I will remember to keep the liquids going so that i can flu**** all out.  And definitely asking the question here has relieved a whole lot of stress.  So thanks for that too!

Not all programs are the same as far as protein requirements and recommendations. My program wants me to do 61g a day. You are only 11 days out, you are still healing, so DON"T WORRY ABOUT IT. Your pouch is swollen still, so there will not be as much room now as there will be in the future. Focus on liquids and quality protein. If you don't get the FULL amount each day, just keep working at it, but don't make yourself bloated. When you feel full, quit, or that poor swollen pouchie will get ticked off. You are doing just fine now, as you heal, you will more easily be able to get your proteins and liquids in with no problem. Good luck and congrats.
