Injured and Frustrated!!

I sprained my ankle. For those of you who have ever done this, you can feel my pain. For those that haven't, it is said that it hurts more than a broken ankle.

Problem is... this is the 6th time on the same ankle. I am just fed up!!
I walked into Cub Foods and got some 2% cottage cheese. As I was walking to the cashier, it fell and blew up all over my new pants.
Then, I decided to go get a cart because apparently my hands weren't in working order. As I walked  into the cart  area,  I rolled my ankle, hearing that familiar *POP* sound and collapsed on the floor -- purse flying  and all.
It seems to always happen when I'm in a good mood or I'm starting to exercise more and all of a sudden, BAM -- I'm handicapped. I never see it coming because I'm an extreme optimist, lol! So now, I am back to wearing the big boot and possible crutches, depending on whether the pain and baseball-sized swelling goes down tomorrow. I've been doing aerobic exercise for 20 minutes daily. Now I don't know how I can do any of the things involving my foot. Any suggestions? Thanks for your sympathy in advance.

Oh honey, I'm soooo sorry!  You must be absolutely miserable, keep that baby elevated and iced, but you probably know that by now if you've sprained it 6 times!  Sheesh!   Take care of you and I'm sending up a prayer that it gets better soon.

Yelena, I feel your pain in about 6 years I had sprained my ankles so many times I had bone chips floating that would irritate then from time to time.  On the plus side with the weight loss my ankles have become so much happier!  For exercise I would suggest if you have access to a gym perhaps trying the recumbant bike with the brace on your ankle, otherwise you could always work on your core (abdominal muscles) with crunches and other pilates type exercises.  I hope that your ankle heals quickley and that the swelling and pain go away soon.   Love & Hugs! Yelena, Who knows, maybe this is one of the problems that you will be celebrating that is gone after WLS.  For now, you know the drill, ice, elevate, Tylenol.  Maybe after it heals, you should ask your doc if you should wrap it for a while to help make it stable?  You don't want to fall after WLS, you could hurt more than your ankle! Rest, Debi

Oh, I do feel your pain, and I can honestly say that a sprain DOES hurt more than a break...when I was younger I tripped off the edge of my driveway, my right ankle broke, it hurt dont get me wrong, but several years later....on my wedding night  of all nights, I got in a fight with a hot tub and sprained my left ankle, I actually started vomiting from that "POP" sound, it swelled up bigger than my head! I have NEVER felt pain like that! And at that point I had already given birth twice! This pain was much worse than the break!  Anyway I had to do streatchy band exercise's to regain strength, my doc said that once you sprain an ankle it is very easy to re-sprain it because the muscles are week, And I found this to be true, I re injured it several times after that.  I don't really have any ideas for exercise you can do, maybe swim? But it's probably best to just nurse it back to health..

Yelena, Geesh, are you going to have any ligaments left??? A sprain is so much worse......... You have my sympathy......I hope the swelling goes down soon.  Only advice I have is stay off your ankle and let it heal.....Sit in a chair and do upper body workouts.  Hope things get better soon. Kelly

egads!  ouch!  Take it easy for a bit there gal! As for exercise, how about concentrating on the upper body for a bit?  Do some curls, over the head stretches and such.  at least you would be getting something in  :)  although walking on crutches isn't something to sneeze at either...

Oh man!  I feel your pain!  I have sprained both ankles about 20 times each through the years!  Every summer I would come up here to MN to visit my dad and every year I would sprain my ankle!  Im such a clutz!  LOL!  I am getting over a stress fracture in my foot right now too!   I would try to lift weights and work out your upper body so at least you are still getting a workout.  But take it easy so youdont make your ankle worse!  Hang in there!
