Anyone have ideas as to how NOT to eat when you're stressed? How can I lose my appetite?

Please spay and neuter your pets!

I'd be interested too - been very stressed ( job issues) and would like to hear how others cope - i'm trying to step away from the chocolate, but it calls my name......

Distraction.  That's all I can say.  Oh, and for those who can, chew gum.  I can't, so I usually try to ignore the urge, or acknowledge the urge to eat as a head thing, have a little chat with myself, then ignore through distraction.

I know this answer may cause some responses but gum helps me!  THat way I feel like Im eating something but Im not really.  It helps me.  I get the sugar free Orbitz and they have all different flavors and they are great.

It seems like the further out I get the more this becomes an issue.  I feel your pain!

My mom is an addiction specialist and when I asked about eating when stressed  she said I had to distract myself.  She said to make a list of about 20 things I have to get done before I can give myself the ok to eat something.  By the time I've done those 20 things I've forgotten that I was "hungry" and just can move on to something else.

I have this problem as well instead of concering it, I reach for the SF popsicles. Not a good option, but better than some options.

Grab a cup of coffee (or favorite calorie free beverage) and get a good book and read - or watch a favorite TV program.  Take the dog for a walk.  If you own a treadmill or exercise machine, get on it and work out even if its for 10 or 15 minutes.  If you don't see a counselor/therapist/Psychologist (whatever you want to call it, lol), start seeing one once a week. I've been seeing my counselor for nearly 2 years and it really helps.   They can give you the tools to find better (and more healthy) ways of managing stress.  Just an unbiased person to unload your problems on works wonders.  I think everyone can benefit from it! :) It's a tough battle, but one that I really believe we can overcome.  We can help each other! Well....great questions!  I do chew gum, but I know that not all surgeons allow that. Some ideas.... Drink water Chew gum Deep breathing Brushing your teeth  Get up and walk for a few minutes  Go talk to someone for a few minutes Stress ball ****ep one on my desk and  count as I'm squeezing)  it just gets my mind off the urge to eat. I like the idea of making a list of things that need to get done before  eating.  Keeps your mind of it long enough to not eat. Good Luck!
