60 Minutes

Well, I have to tell all............that 60 Min. show just about did me in.  It was more than emotional with the contents.  I am 11 weeks out, 66 lbs lost and getting somewhat Ho-Humm,,,,,,will it work more or have I gone the limit???  Did I make the right choice in the "big picture">>>???????

OH boy did I EVER make the right choice.  As did we all.  And for those comtemplating this surgery, look at the "huge" picture and choose with your common sense.

The health issues alone should make a decision very easy.  I was pushing diabetes and kidney #'s that started inching up (family history here), and I said to the surgeon "I don't KNOW what size I wanted to be..(not too naive) and he said, I do not care how you look...............I care about your health!!!

Well, call me old and wiser, call me experienced  but for heaven's sake call me WISE as to making this choice!

There.........................I feel so much better!

Sharon, I watched it and was proud of it. I hope Insurance will change their minds and allow Diabetes patients to have the surgery, they've proved that it gets rid of it........... For health it is a wonderful surgery. And the perk is we get to loose weight and look better & feel better too....... Thanks for posting to watch it. I'm so glad I did. Kelly

Hi Sharon, I found it to be very emotional for me also.  I cried a few times when I realized the gift I truly gave myself.  60 minutes did such an upbeat presentation on the subject and it was fun watching the participants just waiting for questions and the smiles on their faces.  I learned alot from this segment and was surprised to find out that my gallbladder surgery a few weeks ago is more dangerous than bypass.  I kind of passed it of as a minor compared to bypass.  I made this decision at age 59 and was concerned about that in the beginning but know it was the right decision.  I feel great and don't even recognize myself in pictures.  Now if they could do surgery on the head I would be all set. Bonnie................I hear you re: head surgery.  I am working on ignoring my thoughts in lieu of using common/bariatric common sense!  It was so exhilerating to see the smiles and answers from those folks.  I actually think that after this 11 weeks I cried because I "thought" I had done the right thing, but then whammo!!!  I totally knew I have done the right thing!

Hooray for us and all, huh??
