I have begun my 10 day liquid diet and it is so hard.  I walk around the office at work and I can smell bananas- weird how good they smell today... I get home and my daughter had popped popcorn.......mmmmmmm.... So I decide to go for a walk with the dog while my hubby makes dinner for himself and the kids.... I get back just as they are finishing... torture!

I mixed my SF Carnation breakfast drink and came here to read....  drink is gone now and I am soo hungry.... going to get a big glass of ice water, maybe I can trick my head and tummy!

I feel like such a whiner- Day 1 isn't going well- how am I going to do this 9 more days!!!

I think it will be early to bed for me- trying to get my mind off food, I think the only way is to be asleep lol

I can't be much help for you.  I only had to do 2 days of LD prior to surgery and 10 days after.  The days after were easy as I didn't want to eat anything. Early to bed may be a good thing for you tonight.  I imagine it will get easier.  Right now you are focused on what you can't have, maybe try focusing on what you will be getting in just a few days - health and a new you!  Do you read? I'm hoping the next few days go really fast for you! Debi

I won't lie, I hated the liquid diet with a passion. I felt the first days/weeks after surgery were easier than the liquid diet, hands down - but that was me. Tricks I did to get through the LD was sugar free popscicles of all flavors and assortments. lol  Chicken broth in a thermos to sip on, strained Campbell's Chicken Noodles soup, SF Jello.  Most people say the first couple days are hard and it gets easier so maybe that's the way it will be for you.  (I was just the opposite -  for me it was easy the first 3 to 4 days and after that, HARD).  BUT, remember it's all worth it.  You are SO close to the prize and you will get through this.  You are almost there and you are doing great and WILL do great!   ((((Hugs)))) Michelle :)

Cheril, Hang in there......The first couple days are the hardest......I chewed sugar free gum, to keep my mouth going to trick my head. SF popscicles really helped me. Hang on cuz next Friday is the start of a whole new life. Kelly

Hey Hon!  Do whatever it takes to trick the head!!  Keep your eye on the prize!  YOU CAN DO IT!!!!  Popscycles SF rock!  Season your broth with your favorite seasons!  Add SF syrups or flavorings to your SF Carnations.  Varity is the spice of life!  Keep yourself busy!!  Before you know it it will be YOUR day!!  YAY!!! You can do this!  The first days are the hardest but they are also the first days towards your new life and a new slender you, and I might add....a healthier you!   Just a note on chewing gum....it causes your mouth to water and that goes into your tummy, which creates juices that tell your brain it wants to be filled (not the brain but your tummy wants to be filled).  If your book says....have a meal (CIB, Boost, Ensure, whatever) every three hours.....go for it!!!  The idea is not to loose weight right now, it's to shrink your organs so the doctor can more readily get to the stomach and what he needs to get to.  I drank Boost and Ensure, high in calories, but good in filling me up....and I still lost 18 pounds those 10 days.  As for smells....it killed me too, so I put Vicks Vapo Rub under my nose....nothing smells good then and I didn't get hungery from smelling others foods. Best wishes to you hun and hang in there!!!

You've already done the really hard part - that being everything you had to go through to get your surgery approved, and a date set!!!  This, my dear, is just the last pre-operative requirement, and you KNOW you didn't get this far to poop out on it!

WLS is SO WORTH everything you go through to get it!!!! Just decide that you are gonna knock this LD out of the ballpark, impress the dickens out of your surgeon the day you roll into his OR!  Make up your mind to defeat the mindless, excessive eating that got you here in the first place!  For once in your life, YOU are in charge!  Not the food, not the urges, but YOUR WILL!!!  Every time you pass something by, SMILE and know you beat the monster!

I agree with what everyone else said.  What a great group of folks.  Now....the drinking every three hours is important.  I drank 5 to 6 carnations a day.  Do you have the sugar free carnation?  That helps keep the hunger away...or atleast that's what my brain told me.  :O) Really....it gets better after these first few days.

I would have to agree with the others when it comes to SF popsicles they are a lifesaver and it helps to be able to chew something when everything else is drinking.  I know that you can do this and it did get easier for me.  Part of the problem the first couple of days is that our body is still craving carbs after a couple of days when they are all out of your system it will get better.  I started drinking room temp water because sold water gave me a tummy ache.  Also another good idea is get a variety of teas and drink those it will give you some flavor and help fill your tummy.  You can beat this thing and get to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
