Who shops at Aldi's and what is good there?  I took a stroll thru there the other day and I remembered a while back someone here had some good things to say about some of their products.

I've had some good experiences with food from Aldi's, and I've had some borderline experiences.  Remembering that some of the food they get is overstock and/or outdated, just use your thinker when buying.  The only thing I've heard any issues with is the freshness of some fruits and veggies.  I've also seen and used some very fresh fruits and veggies from there.  But it is that time of year when they are all beginning to scrape the bottom of the barrel.  They have awesome buffalo chicken wings in their freezer section!  The prices are awesome.  Remember to bring your own grocery bags or boxes with you.  I bought a few of the recycled, reusable bags from Cub and Rainbow, and try to always keep them in the Jeep.  They are handy for tons of things, they are inexpensive, and I don't have to have guilt throwing away endless supplies of plastic bags.

OMG!!!  I am  a HUGE aldi fan!!!!  You can fill up your cart (which is rented, by the way for a quarter) buy or bring your own bags...what is interesting is that there is only one brand!  No hunts, heinz, etc. but it is kirkland which is a costco brand.  Everything that we've tried has been wonderful!  It's great for the staple items but they don't have a bunch of the "fancy" things.  The frozen chicken wings are WONDERFUL and HUGE!!!  Produce leaves a little to be desired, but the things that are there are good and cheap!  When I have 10 teenagers at my house almost every night, if it wasn't for Aldi, I'd be in the poor house!  Give it a shot...what do you have to lose?

for what its worth. Aldis is NOT overstock or outdated items.  there items are unknown brand names that come from famous brand names. like kirkland.  I agree for longer storage, fruits and vegies I dont care for. but if your using in a few days the prices cant be beat.   a few weeks ago we got banana that never greened but found out it was the trucks fault over the road. They did give a replacement. they also have a great money back garantee if you dont like the product. they also have a website you can get there ads on line and keep prices down because of the cart rental, not accepting checks or credit cards  and of course have the special purchase items. Aldis is great! and no I dont work for them and this isnt an advertisement! just think there great. Bonnie

Paula - bring a quarter (for the cart, you get it back when you put the cart back), bring your own bags (their's cost $), and bring cash (they don't accept any other forms and they do have a cash machine onsite, but it charges you a fee).

I buy our milk there as it is 1/2 the cost. I have also purchased their SF fruit pops which are like frozen popsicles but with real fruit chunks. Fresh fruit - yep, same as above...great price especially when it's fresh and healthy looking. Gravy mix, stuff like that - skip it. yuck Old tasting and gross flavor. JMO though. I have also bought bottled water there. It is usually a decent price. It is nice, especially when you're on a budget. I do also bring a calculator with me so that I don't go over the cash I have with. Let us know what you find there!

My favorite item is a freezer item...Fit and Tasty Chicken patties, the ones with cheese and bacon.  YUMMY!  Lots of protein.  One box has 4 patties, but I can only eat 1/2 patty so it makes 8 meals.

Being on a HUGE budget & 2 hungry teenagers, I shop always at Aldis.  Anymore I only go to Cub for Yoplait yogurt & to fill our water bottle for the h2o machine.  Oh and dog food.  The meat is fresh & reasonable. (pork chops are great & much less expensive than cub as are the cubed steaks.  Stew beef good.  strip steak excellent.  Frozen chicken les/thighs very economical. Bread is $.69 a loaf.  Buns, too.  The store brand everything is good - even the Mayonnaise & I am a Kraft's person.  I spend 150.00 every 2 weeks & feed 4 of us on that - plus 3 cats & a golden retriever.  I LOVE Aldis!
