- Do NOT drink alcohol during the rapid weight loss period.
- When drinking, remember that small amounts of alcohol can cause intoxication or can result in low blood glucose with serious consequences.
- Do not drive or operate heavy equipment after drinking alcohol, even small amounts.
- Eat if you plan to have a drink.
- Make certain to take your bariatric vitamin and mineral supplements.
I was never a big drinker before surgery anyway (I was lucky to have a couple glasses of wine PER YEAR if out on a date with hubby). I'm also long past the rapid weight loss part. I had that maybe the first 2 months and now I lose about 4 pounds a month if that.
I think the article wants people to be cautious as well because of the transfer addiction that can happen after WLS. I don't see myself transferring my addiction to alcohol - but maybe shopping.
