just a little step, but......
Today I'm 3 weeks out and down 16 lbs. I haven't been losing much, *yeah right! when was the last time I lost more than 5-10 in a month!!* but with this surgery I think we all get these high expectations of losing about 40lbs in the first month. I'll admit that I've gotten a bit discouraged, but I'm starting to let go of my perfectionism and I'm just going to let my body tell me what to do instead of my head. This is where my "little wow" comes in. I've always heard that thirst can be read as hunger....but I thought it was a bunch of crap until I experimented.
I was RAVENOUSLY hungry for the past week. I probably ate more than I should *about 800-900 calories a day*, albeit it was mostly yogurt and milk, but still. So, a couple days ago every time I got hungry I'd have a glass of crystal light. The "empty" feeling went away and it kept me satiated until my meal times. I realize a lot people already know this, but this was an epiphany for me. Before this surgery, everytime I was "hungry" I'd shove food in my mouth because I thought it was what my body needed....I mean, how can i get hunger pangs if I'm not hungry? Well, I was probably thirsty and not hungry at all.
I just feel so good that I've figured this much out and it gives me so much hope that YES I CAN FIGURE THIS TOOL OUT AND BE SUCCESSFUL!!!
That is wonderful! Congrats on 16 pounds gone forever! I am a little slower than you and just recently picked up the hunger/thirst thing while reading "Exodus from Obesity" by Paula Peck. I tried it last night and I was able to curb my snacking by having 2 big glasses of crystal light. I am hoping to be able to keep this up and cut out snacking all together (as suggested by the book). I think it is wonderful that you had this epiphany so early in your journey it will really help if you keep in practice. You are doing wonderful. And yes I too had that expectation of losing 40 pounds the first month, but remember that your body does need fuel in order keep your metabolism going and with the severe drop in caloric intake our metabolism is adjusting. At least I think that is what is going on, I could be wrong. Anyways I have rambled enough here I just want to say congrats again on the fabulous work you are doing!
I am out only 4 days longer than you and lost 17 lbs. Thinking I would loose like 30 at a month out. I havent moved the last 3 days, even went up a1/2 a pound, which is amazing because I dont even come close to the amount of calories a pound contains in 4 days! I am still hoping for at least 20, 25 would be better by 1 month......I need to get more liquids in too! Thanks!Your post is what I needed!
