Emily Program Questions

I know that some here have gone to the Emily Program. My PA (bi-polar meds provider) wants me to go to Overeaters Anon but my therapist agrees Emily Program would be as good or maybe better.  Any thoughts on Emily Pgm? I have to find out if they take medicare and medical assistance. That will be the deciding factor if I can go there.

I went through some counseling through the Emily Program and I can't say enough good about them.  The therapist I saw was familiar with WLS and all sorts of eating disorders, and really helped me a lot.  It was a great experience for me, and helped me to get a better handle on eating and why I became obese.  Best of luck to you.

I haven't been through the Emily Program, but have thought about it alot since I have been struggeling and it's only month 4.  I have been to OverEaters Anonymous though and I have to warn you about their program.  There are 2 types of OA, regualar OA and then OA-HOW, which is a very rigid program.  I left after a month because they are very strict.  You must have a diet prescribed by a nutritionist, dietician or doctor and you can not vary from that diet at all, not even to lick the spoon.  You have a sponsor who you have to call every day, reading and writing assignments and check-ins with 3 other members every day.  The meeting I attended also did not speak very well about WLS so that is another thing to keep in mind.  Perhaps the regular OA meetings are better, I am not sure as I was so turned off by the OA-HOW program I ran and didn't look back.  I hope you are able to find something that helps!

I could NEVER do the OA-HOW, I would smack somebody the first day, let alone the first week.  My hat is off to anyone that could do that. Have a great weekend, Karen

I've been going through the Emily Program for over a year. I see an individual therapist as well as attend a group for those with eating disorders and a chemical dependency. I have also seen one of their nutritionists. It's been very helpful in addressing the emotional issues that cause over or under eating. I highly recommend them!
