New here .... and a bit scared
Kimmer
I got the band in Oct. of '06 and it truly is the best thing I've ever done for myself. I know what you mean about losing, but ultimately failing with just one more diet attempt. Did that many times myself! One of the main reasons I like the idea of the band is for the maintenance of the weight loss I achieve.
I don't have a hubby, so I didn' have that issue. But a friend of mine had a hubby who did not support her - wouldn't even take her to the hospital. She went ahead with it anyway, because she was doing it for herself and her health. Now, her husband is fine with it. Maybe your husband is just scared about the idea of surgery, but point out to him the risks to your health if you don't do something about your weight. That's a very real arugment!
If you ever have any questions, let me know! Jean B.

HI Kimmer and welcome to the board!!! I chickened out my first round too... made it halfway through the process then backed out. It took me 4 years to make it back around and I had my surgery this past October. For me it was the best thing I've ever done. My husband was nervous at first too and tried to talk me out of it.. but I think he's glad I did it now too... we're both loving the new me. Good luck in whatever you decide
Lisa.

Welcome to OH! I can't give alot of advice yet as I am pre-op. It really is a personal decission and one you should research. Perhaps if your husband goes with to an informational session he would get alot of questions answered and some of his fears allevated. Best wishes on your journey!

Hey Kimmer- I am with you on the chickening out thing. I did that too. But as the years past things only got worse. I wish I had done this back the first time. Then my knees wouldn't be so creaky. Also, I think of all the years I lost being so miserable. You need to do what's best for YOU. It's not an easy decision. But, it's the BEST thing I have ever done!!!
Good luck,
Lori

I waited 4 years because my husband was "concerned" about the surgery. We'd make the appts together and then he'd chicken out (we were going to do this together). I finally told him he can opt out if he wants, but PLEASE - it was the best thing for me - and he shouldn't stop my decision just because he was unsure for him.
He's been apprehensive, though tried very hard to be supportive - he LOVES the new me now though. We're both very pleased with the health benefits and the results. He ended up not having surgery, but that's entirely his decision and I fully support whatever he chooses to do with his own body. I still love him regardless, of course.
Don't let fear tie you down - explore your options, know the risks, and make an educated choice for YOU. Remember too that as scary as this process can be moving through it, there's a whole lotta folks here for support along the journey.

Kimmer,
Welcome to the best board, ever!! You will find lots of encouragement, information, support, and lots of love as well.
I am almost 9 months out, and though its been a bit of a bumpy road, it has been the best ride of my life.
My hubby, and my Mom, the two peope I NEEDED to support me, were both very apprehensive, in the beginning, now, 100lbs less of me, I have all the support in the world, from them, the rest of my family and friends, but, the best comes from all of the wonderful people here, *****ally "get" it.
The most important part in my journey, for me, was gathering as much information, on every available option, for me, and educating them, so they knew what I was getting myself into. I cant say it was easy, and there were lots of discussions, and tears, but ultimately, they came to the understanding that I knew what was best, for me.
I wish you all the luck, and remember, this is the place to be!!!
Come to a coffee get together, and see the faces that these little avatars dont do justice to, its amazing to be a part of this incredible "family", and we will all help you along the way!

Hey Kimmer:
I am kind of in the same boat.....I am a bit nervous, my hubby is coming around and talking more about the surgery and asking questions. I have the first informational meeting on April 15th and he is coming with me. I am hoping he will be more at ease after the meeting and well as myself.
Please keep us informed on how your doing! Good luck and keep pushing forward - we can push together!
Take care,
Sweetpea
