Semi OT: Organic Foods / Pesticides
I took a class on Wednesday night regarding body toxins and I learned just a ton - very good class. Peeps, there sure is a lot to know about nutrition and how vitally important it is to your body. wow
I thought the pesticides in produce segment was especially interesting and we received a card about which fruits and veggies to always buy organic and which are okay to buy commercially at the supermarket. I thought it may be valuable to some of you.

funny you should mention this! A friend of ours is having major problems with her imunne system. She basically spends her life in her bedroom with a air purifier, Can only eat organic foods, Her throat will close up if there is anything that she is allergic too and she smells it and she need an eppy pen She has problems with foods detergents anything with a smell. She can't leave her house and if she does to go to the doctor she has to wear a mask. How is that for a life?? my thought is maybe all the years of drinking and smoking heavily might have caught up with her. Very sad though!
Aw Jimmy - that is truly sad. I could not imagine how isolating that would be.
The more I learn the more I feel willing to share, but I would feel very confident in recommending her to Nutritional Weight and Wellness http://www.weightandwellness.com/ - maybe see if their natural approach can help her vs. the medical approach? Also, there is one in Champlin, but I have not personally been there yet. Team Health Care http://www.teamhealthcareclinic.com/index.php?file=index.htm l
I hope your friend finds answers and is not always confined to this - it is certainly not the way life was meant to be lived.
You're most welcome Connie & your daughters will be ever grateful for you sharing what you're learning along your journey to a healthier you! I watch my sisters take baby steps towards getting healthier as I share with them (even though I'm the youngest) and it really is a whole family approach and brings a special closeness to our relationship.
Hi Nicole! You are doing an amazing job with your tool BTW!
Like you, my mindset was the same - organic foods = expensive. But I have had to reframe my thinking about this - and to be honest, it has taken me about 2 years to come full circle with this. Basically, of all the research and science behind it that I have looked at, I am finding that you pay for what you get. Well if all we eat is processed foods filled with fillers and chemicals, we're just putting junk in our body that it really does not do a body good (remember the old milk commercial?). Many of us find we have symptoms (like acne, rashes, headaches, joint pain, inflammation, heartburn, etc.) and we wonder why but usually we can pin point it to something in our environment or food intake. Now, this is just my belief based on what I have learned so far.
But, give me the Mom title, and guess what? I am also seeing how the sugars and processed foods are affecting my kids and I'm not liking the results, so I'm even more eager to change bad habits and choices into good one's.
Plus, put yourself on organics for 1 week and I bet you feel better physically & emotionally, too. Then go have a McDonald's hamburger and see if gas and bloating don't occur, right?! Ya, yuck!
I'm setting up for the long haul after surgery. My vision is that by having surgery, I am putting my body back in place and I'm not going to harm it any longer by continuing to eat unhealthy foods or to eat just to comfort a need that is not being met.
Whoa, sorry for all that Nicole, but I guess it was just on my heart to share.
Protein cheers to being healthy!

Thank you for sharing all of that, I needed the reminder. About 5 years ago when I was living with friends we ate all organic food and I did notice a difference. I think it is time I got myself a membership to a co-op and start shopping smart! Again thank you for helping me to remember the promise I had made to myself and for helping us all become more educated on the posions that our foods could contain.
