aaaahh the post-op life - good and bad

Seems so weird to me....did I really have surgery or did Chuck just knock me out for 5 min and punch me in the stomach a few times?  Maybe I'm a part of a new placebo experiment.  Hmmm.... I'm tolerating everything pretty well...of course I've only had water, SF popsicles, jello, and now today I had 16 oz of milk throughout the day.  I have my first post-op tomorrow which will bring me to full liquids and then on Saturday I can proceed to pureed foods.  I'm so excited about that!  I've been eating NOTHING for 2 weeks straight.  I don't think I have tastebuds anymore...they're certainly on a vacation right now.  Here's the one weird thing....my nose is SUPER sensitive.  My roommate made garlic bread and I had to leave.  It was horrible!!!!  The smell of chicken soup makes me gag as well...I was going to have broth, but ewwww...no way.  I heard this is a side effect of anesthesia?  I hope it goes away soon.  I can't tolerate a lot of smells right now.  So strange. I also broke down twice within the past 2 days.  I'm getting frustrated already with only having a very limited amount of food to choose from.  I know this will pass, but I started crying because I couldn't eat.  So, thankfully my therapy appt still stands on the 31st.  I'm definitely going through the withdrawal symptoms of food addiction.  WLS is my rehab.  It will get better, I just miss TEXTURE in food.  I envy those who can just go through the grocery store and pick up all these delicious things...they don't even need to be unhealthy.  I just want a hamburger patty, or a chicken taco or even a slice of deli meat on a cracker!!!!!!!.  OMG I hate head hunger!!!!  I know all these foods will come in time, but wow....I never realized how messed up food is with me.  Sorry for the long post

Hang in there sweetie we have all been there.  This too will pass as you get adjusted to your new life style.  As of today i still cannot be in the same room as my family when they order out pizza.  It's my trigger food that puts my head in a tail spin.  2x I have had to leave the house.  Textured foods will come soon enough but for now your pouch is still in the healing process and need liquids only.  You are doing great keep up the good work and try to be positive as much as you can. hugs Troy

Congrats on becoming a loser!!!  The head doesn't get fixed  -- just the stomach size.  Don't rush to get back to foods too fast -- you will be sent back to liquids to heal the new pouch when you hurt it.  Plus you will get sick -- you'll only do that once.  Talk about pain !!!!  The first time something gets stuck or you eat too much -- you'll slow down real fast!!!  I don't think we can warn you enough cause you will never forget it. The smell thing -- mine is chocolate and it is not going away 5 1/2 months out.  I cannot stand the smell without being ill -- funny since I used to eat a ton of it!!  But I don't miss it -- something I really shouldn't have any way.   Get you mind off of food and concentrate on other things.  Think of food, take a walk.  Think of food, drink more water.  Think of food, take a walk.  Think of food, drink more water.  Repeat as needed.....

I had horrible "withdrawal" symptoms the first 2 weeks after surgery.  I even went back to work a week early just to get my mind on other things  This is very rough part and I know this is easier said then done but keep you mind busy on other things then food.  I promise you will get through it and when you see the scale move it makes its all worth it.!

Oh wow, I remember being SO sensitive to odors - that was really awful and I feel for you, but it will get better and the tearfulness will too.  That was one thing I also dealt with.  Although, some of my breakdowns were in public, I remember having a meltdown in Target - not pretty You will hear this so often, but it's true - it gets better and these feeling won't last forever.  They won't.  Trust us.  hang in there!

I remember going through the food withdrawl I would stand in front of the pantry or refirdgerator looking at all the food in there and be sad that I could not eat any of it.  But pureed foods will come soon and that will provide some texture although I will warn you it's not a whole lot.  I am also still really sensative to smell of grease.  I sit close to stairway leading to the cafeteria where I work and if there is a day when they are frying a lot of food I can really smell it and it makes me sick to my stomach.  I am glad to hear that you have a therapy appointment I wish I could muster up the courage to go back to therapy, but after four years of weekly therapy I need a break.  Keep eating the SF popsicles and jello and hopefully you will be eating pureed foods before you know it.

You have to make that baked Ricotti!  It is awsome!  I have a bunch of little containers of it in my freezer, I made a tripple batch and just froze it.  Its yuuuuuumooooooo!

WLS Recipes

Baked Ricotta

8 oz of Ricotta Cheese 1/2 cup grated Parmesan1 large Egg, beaten1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning salt & pepper to taste1/2 cup Marinara Sauce 1/2 cup shredded Mozzarella Cheese Post Date: 3/12/08 10:30 am I can't find the meatball recipe from Linda Anne but here's one from Bonnie... I make this great dish quite frequently. You can add ground beef or Italian sausage and it is delish. With lean burger or sausage the protein is about 23 grams. WIthout it is about 12 grams. I used this dish in the pureed stage without the meat.Happy Eating!

Mix ricotta cheese, parmesan, beaten egg, seasonings together and place in a oven proof dish. Pour marinara on top and top with mozzarella cheese. Bake it in the oven @ 450 for about 20-25 minutes (best) or nuke it till hot and bubbly. I usually made it first in the oven and heated the leftovers in the microwave. Edi

I cut and pasted that to my Word when she posted it.. LOL
