Got the Smackdown from my Dr today

So I went into the doctor for what I thought was a fungal infection from hanging skin. SURPRISE!!! I do have a fungal infection, but it's ringworm. Turns out I got it from the kittens I was fostering for 3 weeks. Great.  Anyways, she asked me what my lowest weight was. I told her about 160. She asked when my surgery was, I said 9/19/05. She asked how tall I was, I said 5'6". She looked at my chart and looked at my current weight and frowned. She said why I had gained so much weight. I now weight 174. I told her I knew I needed to exercise, as I never have done that. She said that 14 pound gain was not from not exercising. I told her that I was also binge-eating. She said "Carb Loading?" I said Yup. She asked me why and I said that I don't know but I needed to go to therapy. I told her the name of someone that was recommended to me and she thought that was a good idea. She asked me why i was stress eating - what had been going on to make me do that. I told her that I honestly didn't know. I told her I was aware that I needed to go back to eating Protein first, and no carbs, or only good carbs. She suggested drinking more water and I said that I was already drinking enough - my problem was carbs. So I basically got a kick in my pants from my doctor. She was less than pleased and it was quite obvious. Guess it's my turn to step up.

Hello Farrah...not the best of news but it needed to be said. I hope you do go to therapy.....you need to find out what is triggering this. Good luck. Hugs, connie d

HI Farrah~ I guess it's a good thing that your doc is contentious enough to chew you out!  Being called on the carpet always sucks--but it is a 'wake up' call, yes?  You know the rules--now you gotta apply them!  Best of luck! ((HUG)) **SUE**

You have  a good Dr.  It's a good thing that they watch us and make us be accountable.  Great when we find one that listens.  Sorry you got your butt kicked, but glad that it is going to get you back on track.

Farrah~ , appointments like this can be so hard!  :0(  but I'm glad that your stepping up and going to go to therapy!  I think that we all need a bit of therapy for our emotions and food and how they play a role on our stress in our lives.  It sure does go hand and hand. I always think about breastfeeding and how comforting that is to a baby.  Food=Comfort...but we don't always "need" as much "comfort" as we think... At least that's what I tell myself. Take care, Selena

Wow!  I guess it was a blessing in disguise that you got the rash, although I'm sure it's not pleasant.  I went to therapy for about 6 months  about a year after surgery and it really helped.  I was scared of my old behavior coming back, and it helped to work through it.  I was carb-loading and eating candy, etc.  It was very helpful to see a professional who knew how to deal with WLS patients and our eating issues.   I may have to keep going back periodically for "tune-ups", and I look forward to that.  The clinic I went to treated all sorts of patients with various eating disorders, and it was eye-opening to be there and see all the different types of people with eating issues.  It said a lot to me about how our culture deals with food in unhealthy ways!  I hope therapy goes well for you!
