Nervous-Just venting

I'm a little nervous for the Saturday the day before Easter will be the first time I'm with my family other than my DH and sister since surgery.  I know I've done really well so far but part of me thinks when my family see's me I won't live up to their expectations of weight loss. I know their problem not mine but still it bothers me. There is also the whole eating thing having 40 people watching me eat.  I get nervous they will think I'm eating too much.  Then there are all the questions.   I don't mind educating people but its just a lot of pressure. I'm hoping my cousin who is 8 1/2 months pregnant will take most of the attention.   Then on  Easter Sunday we will be at my in-laws who kind of live in the dark ages and don't have a clue about WLS.  My dear dear dear husband spoke to his mom yesterday and she asked how much I had loss.  He got confused on my current weight (275) vs how much I've lost (48lbs) and told his mom I had loss 75 lbs  ( I just had surgery 1/29/2008!!!!).  I'm sure she called everyone in the world she knows and told them (she's lives on the phone and loves to talk about other people's medical issues).   So when I show up I feel everyone is expecting this HUGE weight loss and the 48 lbs will seem so insignificant.

Don't Stress, I would just eat before you go so you will not have to eat infront of them. That will take of the pressure of everyone watching you and ask do you really need to eat that slow and are you sure you can eat that and then again they might not ask at all. Good Luck  Nicki

Hi Kathy~ IMHO, you are doing an AWESOME job of losing weight--48 #s in a month and a half!!     Could you have done that before on your own??   Don't let ANYONE take that away from you!  As far as your MIL goes--consider the source and forget it.  48 lbs lighter is amazing!!!  WHO CARES what others think?? (And by the next family get-together they won't be able to recognize you!!!) On that note--so soon after surgery--you won't be eating much anyway!  And the softer the food, the better. Keep in mind 'protein first',  get all your water in, but stop drinking 1/2 before meals.  Follow the rules set up by your  doctor---and enjoy the ride!   You'll be experiencing so many WOWs  you'll want to share with everybody! Have a wonderful Easter---and be thankful you've been given a chance for a better,  healthier life. ((HUG)) **SUE**

48#'s is terrific!  And it will be 50 something by Easter!  That is totally fantastic!  Don't let anybody take that away from you.  I am not too sure what we are doing on Easter this year....my hubby works days and I think my daughter works at night.   I know I will have church, but that is all I know for now.  LOL.  Usually we grill at my mother's who has a broken arm.  So, not real sure what to do, plus she doesnt have a whole lot of room.  I could have it here.  I guess, just throw a ham in the crock pot and some scalloped potatoes or something like that.......then just put a little in the food processor for myself...?  Any ideas?

Kathy, I agree with everyone else. You are doing awesome!  Make sure you eat the protein first. And drink plenty of water before hand. I think as long as they see you happy in your weight loss, they will be satisfied. If the WL comes up, just say 48 pounds are gone forever. Make the hubby apologise for his mistake. Who knows, maybe it looks like you've lost that much and it won't come up....... Good luck and don't stress. This is life long and soon enough they won't recognize you. Kelly

Hey Hon!  It's normal to feel that way!  It's hard!  I've gone to weddings and funerals and they put the attention on my WL instead of why we are there!  Trust me, once you are there all is well!  I so understand the feelings tho!  The pressure!  Take deep breathes and believe me THEY WILL notice 48 pounds!!!  CONGRATS!  Be proud!!! You've done awesome! Hugs!

Hi Kathy! You should be SO PROUD of your 48 pounds weight loss...it will be even more by Easter.  I remember feeling the same way you are describing, though.  You do kind of feel like you are on display and everyone is watching you...try really hard not to let it bother you and just remember how far you have come. (and know that it gets easier the farther you are out from surgery...your confidence really seems to grow...in my humble experience anyway).  People that really love you only want the best for you...and those that don't...can take a flying leap.  And remember...there is nothing INSIGNIFICANT about 48 pounds!!!  Hang in there...you are on the beginning of a fantastic voyage...ups and downs and bumps along the way...and worth every one of them.  Here is wishing you continued success!!! Don't worry about what other people think.  People will talk and watch regardless.   And, by the way, you are looking fabulous!  I can tell in your face.   Oh, and use a baby spoon with a cute character on it.  And a matching fork and plate.  Something like Mickey Mouse or Barbie.  It will give family something else to notice.  Right?   :) KellyAnn

Oh hun Easter is such a glorious day, You shouldn't be worrying about anything, but I do understand how it is.  Just know in your heart You made this desission for YOU and it has nothing at all to do with anyone else.  If they insist on asking questions and talking about your WL, follow the rule of thumb--- if they are being kind and respectful, answer in the same way... If they are being snide and disrespectful ask them to kindly find another topic!

You sound like you're right on track, no worries!

Best Wishes hun- Have a Blessed Easter!  Jesus Lives!!!!
