What now?

Hi y'all, well, today is my 5 month out mark, and I'm having some troubles. I find myself in a funk lately that I just can't seem to get out of. My family doesn't understand why I'm so moody, or upset or depressed ect lately. Afterall I should be happy right? I mean I got my WLS, I'm losing, down 88 pounds in 5 months not to shabby, aren't I supposed to be feeling better about myself and smiling and all better now? Well I'm not, and I just can't get them to understand that... hell I don't understand why I'm feeling this way. I don't know why I'm feeling the way I am, I've tried to keep a positive outlook but that becomes increasingly difficult to do somedays. I'm still doing what I'm supposed to and the weight is still coming off albeit alot slower these days. I'm not eally looking to whine or complain I really just need to know if everyone goes through this "phase" and if it goes away soon. You know.. kinda like the hair falling out. I hate feeling this way. Anyway. thanks for listening. Hugs L.

Lisa, just from what I have learned going through all the classes on WLS, I would totally say YES, yes, yes - this is a normal phase. And I was told that most should increase their depression meds if on one, or look at changing it. Please call your PCP and discuss!

Amy I'm not on anti-depressants. Never have been, seems kinda strange that I would need them now?

I don't think it's strange. Linda Anne always told me that as you lose the fat, hormones are stored in the fat and it's bonkers what your body & hormones go through as you get rid of the fat. I know someone with more experience will chime in, but I honestly don't think it's crazy that you might need them for a short time after surgery. But, I could be totally off my rocker...

Hey Lisa,

I totally understand what your saying. Remember a month or so ago me putting the post up about being so down? I am finding alot of people have had the same problem. WLS or not. I personally think it's the weather. I'm hoping now that it's getting nicer out, and we can get out more (I've walked the last two days) that maybe just maybe we will see an improvement in our mental well being. As far as the Anti deprescents go, I am on them, and they don't seem to be helping much. Hope this helps.!!!!

I am not short... I am fun sized!!

Thanks Diane. Yes I remember you saying that. I walked outside on Monday night and it was great.

Lisa, It sounds like a few people are going through this right now - as I just replied to Carol's post about the very same thing. First of all it's VERY normal, here's what I wrote to Carol.... I think this is one of those times that come up during the journey of WLS that none of us really knew would happen.  Our bodies on the outside are changing so drastically and all of a sudden without realizing it or intending it to happen we find that we have changed.  Be comforted that this is a normal process and that it is a good time because it really allows you to take a long, hard look at who you are and what changes you need to make to become who you've wanted to be so long.  It may all be scary now - but I'm almost positive that you will come through it in a much better place. As they always say...what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!   Also, remember that when you lose weight all the hormones that were stored up in those fat cells are being released into your body which can cause many different types of emotions to mull around in your head and body. I hope I'm not being passe about what you're feeling - because even though it's normal - it's extremely difficult to go through.  What I suggest to you is to get thy behind back to coffee's (we haven't seen you in a while) and surround yourself with people that DO understand and can appreciate what you're going through.  And then give yourself permission to just be in a funk.  Mine lasted a few months, but when I finally came through it - I can honestly tell you it was all worth it.  Come to coffee at Burnsville Panera Thursday night or Saturday morning or BOTH.  I want to give you a big hug.  So if you don't do it for yourself - do it for me! I love you girlie.  Prayers that God will give you peace and blessings through this phase of your journey! Take care and see ya at Panera!
