has anyone had the rny and weighed about 500 lbs?

hi i am new here and i am wondering if anyone has had the r n y and weighed about 500lbs? and where you had it done at and have you had any problems/complications from it...? please let me know asap....i am worried that something serious will happen to me if i dont do something about my weight now....thank you....                    christie

Hi Christie, My highest known weight was 502...my BMI was 89. I had open RNY in April 2003 at The Ohio State Medical Center. The only complication I had was an incisional hernia. But now many docs are able to do Lap RNY on large patients. Best wishes....ask me anything. Sarah

Hi Christie~ I was at the Thunder Bay support meeting yesterday, and there was a guy who weighs over 500 lbs. He's going to the Mayo Clinic for his GBS, as the hospital in Duluth doesn't have strong enough tables for this weight. Good luck on your journey. God bless~ **SUE**

Hi, Christie - Welcome!  My huisband weighed 483 lbs approximately at time of surgery.  He had it at Methodist with Dr. Jones May 6, 2004.  He had it lap, Not open.  He had absolutely NO problems & has lost over 230 lbs & kept it off almost 4 years out.  Best thing he ever did for himself and us.  Good Luck.  If you need more information, just ask.  Glad to help! Hi Christie The doctor I had, Dr. Rupp, has done patients weighing over 700 pounds. He used to only do open, but I believe he now does them lab. He is with St. Paul Surgeons and does his surgeries at United Hospital in St. Paul. Peggy
