A warning to take your vitamins
This is a good reminder for those who think they don't need extra vits/minerals! Thanks for posting it.
My pharmacy does my meds (antidepressant, synthroid, Celebrex, Prevacid) and vitamins and minerals in blister packs so I take them at the right time of day.
This might sound like a shocker, but I take 2000 IU of vitamin D daily--and still I'm just at minimum level. I get my blood tested every few months to make sure levels are okay--and have things adjusted accordingly.
I think we don't realize how vital vitamins and minerals are to the smooth functioning of our bodies!
I appreciated reading this, too - and because of the research I did pre-WLS, I decided not to be one of these stories. I was NEVER good about taking vitamins before - hubby has taken his every day for his whole life! But not me. Not until I learned how the RNY works, and how it is SO IMPORTANT to get them in! I started making it a habit when I submitted my paperwork to PNC, and I don't believe I've missed a day since. I don't care how bad they taste, I take 'em 'cuz I need to. It's what I signed on for when I decided to pursue this surgery, so I'm responsible for it.
My trick, if you can call it that, is to buy two of each supplement I take. I have a set at home, and a set at work. Then I don't have to remember to bring anything with me! I just plan to take them at work M-F, and I've got everything at home for the weekend. I'm supposed to take my B12 once a week, but I take it Sun and Wed just in case - church days = B12 days!
I pray we all take this message to heart. We all have the power to prevent what Anita is going through. I love you all!!
Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
OMG!! Thanks for posting!! Especially for us newbies!!!. You guys here at OH, are helping us soooo much!!! by the time we make it to our meeting with the sergeon, he is going to be amazed at the knowledge we have and I have to give thanks to everyone.
I will put this in my journel, to keep in mind how important it is to do what is needed to stay healthy after the WLS. Thanks again for this post!
