Looking for anyone who may have this or developed this after WLS.  I'm going in for my second screening for low TSH levels which may mean I have a hyperactive thyroid.  NOW I'm starting to feel like my whole body is going to hell.  Plus the symptoms I have suggest hypothyroid not hyper, but the tests show the opposite.  I've gained 10 pounds!!!  And I'm still testing blood for glucose levels.  Which are all over the board.   UGH!!!

Paula, I don't have an advice, but questions - what are you symptoms?  I've been having some weird symptoms that I'm having checked out and am curious if its anything similar to yours. I hope you get to the bottom of this real soon - it sucks not to feel good. Take care!!! Tracy

Sorry you are suffering Hon!  Look at the positive:  the blood sugar can be helped by proper nutrition.  The thyroid (my sister has the hasemoto(sp?)) can be controled by meds.  I know how it sucks when health isn't where it should be.  Here's hoping the doc's find the solution for you!

Well, seeing that I just went through having Hashimoto's disease and thyroid cancer, I've been doing a lot of reading out it.  Check out www.thyca.org for a LOT of information.  I was hypo....tired all the time, cold, dark circles under the eyes, tend to lose weight.  Hyper...tends to gain, can't seem to settle down, jumpy, may have more buggish eyes, warm. A lot can be controlled with the right dosage of medication, so see the doctor asap.  An Endocrinologist specialists in thyroids. Best wishes to a good diagnoses and recovery!!

I am going back in 2 weeks to have my TSH levels checked again.   Last time I went in they were low for the first time - never had any problems before...

Paula~~~ Ugh, I so know what you're talking about.  I've been battleing hypothyroidism for about five years.  The joys!   In fact that's one of the reasons I had RNY. Anyway, just remember that as soon as they get you "back to normal" you'll feel better, or at least a little better.  As far as the weight gain that does sound like hypo and NOT hyper...with hyper you normally lose weight very quickly. What tests did they run?  You want your TSH but also your T4 because the two test corralate and give the doctors more information; before you let them put you on any drugs  Please SEE a speacialist!!! Take care, Selena

That's the thing...all my symptoms point one way but my lab test read the other...go figure...I'm going back in tonight for a re draw of blood....so that my PCP has the results when I go back on Wednesday.

Paula~ Good, I'm glad they're taking more tests...  I think the main thing from my experience is that the thryoid is NOT an exact science and there is gray areas; that's why if you PCP can't figure it out or you're concerned about you symptoms verus blood work I would go to a specialist... That's what I did and I feel a lot better.... Take care, Selena

I've been up and down for 25 years.  Started with hyper, got the radioactive iodine and they killed it so I'm permanently hypo, but controlled with medication.  The type of test is important too.  They should run both a TSH and a Free T4 or T3.  If you are hyper or getting too much medication, the tests will be low.  If you are not getting enough, the tests will be high.  My suggestion -- get to an endo doctor -- for the thyroid and the blood stuff.  You could have one of the side diseases such as Hashimoto or Graves which can screw the tests up.  You don't want to mess with the thyroid balance!!
