Hernia
A friend of mine has a question but I dont know how to answer her because I have never had a hernia nor do I know anyone personnally that has had one.
Her question is:
Hey I have a question, maybe you know this through the meetings, if a person gets a stomach hernia how would one know would there be pain??? Or something? What signs would you have? And what should you do about it. see a doctor yes.... but what else?
If anyone has had one or any suggestions or feed back that I can tell her I would be/she would be grateful!
.....Thanks Jackie B
Hi Jackie! I had a hernia and only knew due to pain. The muscle was constricting causing the pain. But from what I understand, some herrnia's don't get constricted. SO, best advice would be to have go to the doctor and he will find out if she has one and then will tell her what she should do. Best to you and your friend!

Hi Jackie, I had an umbilical hernia for at least the past 6 years. I never had any pain or problems with it , it was just there. The doctor decided to take it out so it would not cause any problems after RNY surgery b ut he also took my appendix out too. He said I nwas one those freaks that had everything out of whack.

Been there, done that. Had one that just sat there like a lump - literally - for 7 years. Didn't cause any pain or nausea, just left me with a knob in my belly. Dr. Jones fixed that up for me before starting my RNY.
Had 2 that DID strangulate, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Can't keep anything down, not even a tsp. of water. Lots of puking, extreme pain, eventually got more or less delirious! NOT FUN.
As for whether or not your friend has one, I would have her lay on her bed, put her hand over the area she suspects, and do a sit-up. If there's a bulge there, she probably has a hernia. Obviously, she should really have her doctor look at it. Even at 377, Dr. Jones could tell I had one. I thought it was mesh from one of the repairs, but nope - it was another hernia. Hopefully without all that excess fat in me, I won't be popping any more of those!
I see you're in Long Lake - I work at Baker Park! We should meet for lunch/coffee some day!!
