Having just had surgery, this is hard (I'm still on clear liquids). I agree with all of the above. The first thing I want to do is to love my whole self again.

What keeps me in line is the GROSS pic at my eye level on the refrigerator.

The biggest drive for getting surgery:  My PCP recommended it at my annual physical two years ago next month (March).  The following week I'd attended the FVSD informational group, only to learn I'd have to be not smoking for four months prior to actual surgery.  That night I got rid of all my smokes (including two cartons in the freezer!) because I wanted to have surgery ASAP.  And my surgery was exactly four months later, July 25, 2006.

What keeps me accountable:  the scale.  My psychologist, who I've been seeing weekly since the assaults. Also, daily compliments since I don't see the same people every day in my apartment building. And the best example:  with working every other weekend, co-workers and residents and their families are so generous with their positive comments! I'm so blessed with daily hearing kind words and  seeing wide smiles.

Am often frustrated when my MS pain acts up and interferes with my exercise plans.  Am so looking forward to warmer weather for more comfortable speed-walking. Yes, I walk as long as the temp is above twenty so my muscles don't spasm.  The bright side is that my good days are incredibly active and that positive attitude carries beyond anything.

Oh, I fel and got hurt on Monday, so have been on the Medrol dose pak (steroids) which cause MAJOR hunger.  I take the single one Friday, and will go back to the 5DPT Monday after the Duluth weekend.  Yes my life now includes brighter colors, brighter sunshine, and the best peers right here at OH. Just haven't met enough of you!  Thank you Sandie for this thought-provoking topic!  Can't wait  to meet you tomorrow!  Hugs galore, Patti

Great question --- My motivation is my life with my family.  I want to be around to see my children become grandparents -- I'm so excited to see my grandson grow into a man and to be there for him.  I lost my mother when I was 30, but my daughters lost their grandmother at 9 and 7 -- they missed a lot.  She couldn't have prevented it (leukemia) but I could and I had no excuse.  And being able to enjoy retirement is another motivation.  My hubby was not looking forward to retirement because he was afraid I wouldn't be there with him.  He didn't know how he was going to enjoy his later years without me there to keep him going.  It was a dope slap to me. So now I'm healthy and looking forward to my future.   Besides all that - Linda Anne would kick my butt (cause she has always been my inspiration) if I threw this gift away -- Love you Linda!!! My motivation to get the surgery and to be successful at this is my son. I wanted to make sure that I was around for him for a long time. Since he has special needs he will need care for most of his life. I want to be there to help him and to ensure that he has a successful life.  Fitting into clothes that I have not worn in years is a another great motivation to keep loose weight. I'm having fun with that right now!!!
God Bless, Angela
