Are there any amputees out there who have had WLS?
I have an amputated lower right leg and had stuggled with weight since I was a child due to the leg issues. My BMI is 38, but I am hoping that they will consider me for the surgery. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. I have submitted my paperwork to Methodist Hospital in Minnesota, just waiting to hear what they say.
Mellon, I keep checking hoping that there is someone out there that can respond with more understanding about the amputation. . . Not yet, I guess. I will keep my fingers crossed for you in regards to WLS. I've learned that folks are often considered by insurance companies if they have a BMI of 40, 100 or more pounds of excess weight OR if they have "extra" health problems (comorbitities) that could be improved with weight loss. If insurance will not pay, I know there are folks that pay out of pocket. I, myself, am heading down to Mexico to self-pay.
Never, ever give up your HOPES and dreams. They are there for a reason. . . You will find a way. Warmly, Cindy
