Lactose Intolerant?

Ok, at my last doctor appt. I was talking about some of my bowel issues, and they thought I might be mildly lactose intolerant...which is a REAL bummer because I LOVE milk and cheese, and cottage cheese, etc.  They told me to lay off any dairy products for a month - well, it has only been about 2 weeks, and I am not having the problems I had before, so I was getting used to the idea that I wouldn't be able to have any of that stuff any more.  Today, I went down to the coffee shop in our building where one of the waitresses there has had surgery (about 4 or 5 years ago) and I had made some comment about that.  She state that she is lactose intolerant as well, but has found a supplement that she takes.  She said she had a bowl of cereal for the first time in over 4 years last week, and didn't get sick from it...it is called DairyCare.  I will do some research on this myself as well, but was wondering if anyone on here has heard of/used that as well?  What has been your experience with it? Thanks!

I am lactose intorerant and having been drinking Lactaid lactose free milk with no problems. I find that I'm fine with cheese and other dairy too. Milk was my biggest problem. It was like drinking drain-o for me. Start with the lactose free milk and work your way through the others.

Lots and lots of people become lactose intolerant after WLS. I was lactose intolerant BEFORE WLS.  All I have to say is: Lactaid! Lactaid! Lactaid! It tastes exactly the same as real milk. Most likely, cottage cheese and cheese and yogurt will not affect you, as they have a lot less lactose than Milk. Breyers also make Lactose Free Vanilla Ice Cream. NUMMY!

Unfortunately, cheese is a huge problem for me...I forgot one night during this "trial run" of no dairy and had a chicken cordon bleu sandwich (without the bun) and it had a huge gob of melted swiss cheese on it - it worked just like drain-o (as stated above) on me....I couldn't figure it out - but then remembered the cheese - that was the clincher for me - yep, definately lactose intolerant.

Thanks all for your input into this...I appreciate your help and support!

Are you sure it wasn't the amount of fat in the chicken cordon bleu?  Either way, just be careful and good luck.
