OT: Need info on the Awesome State of Minnesota!!!

Hi all, as you can tell by my info, I am from Covina, CA.  However, my Mom (who passed away in 2004) is originally from Minnesota.  My son is in the 5th grade and doing a State Report on Minnesota.  There are a couple of things that we cannot find, no matter how much we look, internet and otherwise. First, does Minnesota have official color or colors?  For example, the official colors of California are Blue and Gold.  If MN doesn't have official colors, is there any particular reason why or why not? Then, my son has to include a MN product map of the location of the leading areas for agriculture, mineral and manufactured goods. Any information would be greatly appreciated.  The report is due a week from this coming Monday, yikes!

Blue and old gold are the colors of the state, I found this out under the MN statute 41-851.

Here is the web site for the map.

Don't know if this is exactly what you are looking for but it was something.   Hope this helps if not let us know and I can do some more looking.

Wow, great, thanks! BTW, I e-mailed the MN legislative librarian at the same time I posted here too, not knowing if I would get an answer in time from either source.  You know more than the legislative librarian, as he was unaware of any state colors for MN!

Keep in mind that our state colors are sometimes Purple and Gold, but it's a rare thing indeed.

My Mom was a graduate of the University of Minnesota and I'm sure if she were still alive today, she'd tell us that the State colors are Maroon and Gold!  I e-mailed my cousin in Prior Lake and told her about finally finding out about the official State colors and joked with her that the official State color should be white, for all the snow you get!

Ah ha, thus the your name, Frozen Peach!  Too funny!   My poor son has decided that he wants to type the report himself, even if it kills him (and it just might, because he types maybe five words a minute, not including corrections).  They have their choice of handwriting it, which my son hates even more, but if they type it, the typing MUST be done themselves and NOT by a parent.  Too bad, because I type about 60 wpm net (I've been a programmer for over 20 years, so I better darn well know how to type by now!).  The problem is, our kids are in Catholic School so I am sure I would burn in Hell if I typed it for him.    If he were in public school, I would seriously have to think twice about not typing it for him!    In any event, my point of telling you this is that I'll e-mail you the Word document when he's done. Hey, I do have a question for you that doesn't need to be included in his report, but I was thinking out loud today and wondering how the Indian tribes figure into things politically in the State of MN.  Since they are a sovereign nation, do they have any of their own delegates in the electoral process, are they separate from the electoral process, or does the electoral process work just like any other State in the US? Thanks!

Anne  hope this helps. for mineral that is easyIron Range - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. the article includes a map of where the "iron range is. agriculture try http://www.agclassroom.org/kids/stats/minnesota.pdf. The manufacturing is located mainly around the twin cities area. MN has several prominent manufacturers such as 3M, they make scotch tape, post it notes and a few million other things. General Mills is a gigantic food producer with many brands,  which  includes Pillsbury.  General Mills was founded in Minneapolis because of the St. Anthony Falls in the Mississippi river provided the power to run huge grain mills. The ag site link I gave you should lead to some decent maps. email me at [email protected] if you have any other questions. It is past my bedtime and I am not sure how well I have answered you.  good luck

Thanks to all who helped with my son's report!  He turned in the beast on Friday, hooray!  It turned out to be 35 pages in length, and even though we started working on it several months ago, we were still working on it Thursday night.  Some of the kids didn't start on their report (they all got a a different State) until the weekend before it was due, I cannot imagine how they would have gotten it done on time with all the requirements.  On the other hand, while we were marvelling at the thought of my son's report being 35 pages long, one classmate's report ended up being 80 pages long! My son pasted quite a bit of different pictures, maps, stamps and even the Minnesota quarter into his report, so if anyone would like a hardcopy, please PM me your snail mail address. You won't get it right away, because we have to wait for it to be graded and returned.  I do not envy his poor teacher having to grade all of those reports! Thanks again to all of you, I really appreciate it!
