clothing sizes question

I'm just wondering.... I just read a post on the main board and the person started at 289 and is down to 160 now and wears a size 12 or 10?  I weigh 162 and wear a 16?  How can someone wear such a tiny size at this weight?  Or is it just me???  I keep seeing posts of people saying they wear such small sizes at my weight and even at higher weights than me, I'm just confused why I wear a larger size than others.... Thanks, Debi

Hey Debi!  I stopped looking at that.  I'm sure it all has to do with height.  A person that is 6 ft and 160 is going to wear a much smaller size than a person 5 ft  at 160.  It doesn't seem fair though.....it's not my fault I'm vertically challenged.

Everybody loses in different places.  And many brands are cut different than others.  I have pants that are 10's (Liz & Co) and others that are 6's (St. Johns Bay and Gloria Vanderbilt).  They are just cut differently.

Hopefully this helps!!! XXOO

it boils down to body build, height and any exercising.....

it all combines to the end result being: 3 different women all the same height, same weight....wear 3 different sizes

ain't life grand LOL

PS:  I always end up the biggest size of the 3 LOL

Thanks Peach.  I'm usually the biggest size too.  I'm hoping that will end soon.

Everything already stated is true....and don't forget that even the same size, made by the same manufacturer, same cut and everything - can be as much as 3-4 inches different depending on the garment. Next time you're at the store take the same size of a garment you're thinking about buying and hold it up to another piece in the same size to compare how different they can actually be - the very same cut, size - everything! What it really boils down to though is you are uniquely you - stop beating yourself up. Isn't it just great to be healthier? Who cares what size you wear.

I will do that!  I don't usually compare my weight loss to others on the board-I've been more than thrilled with my progress.  But lately I've been in a stall, the weather is awful-I think I've just been a little down.  But there's a lot of that going around this time of year. You are so right-I am the healthiest I've been in 10+ years, and when I started this process I said as long as I was healthy I didn't care what size I was or what the scale says.  It's so easy to get trapped into seeing those numbers and wanting them to be even less then they are. I am so thankful for the great people on this board that are always willing to boost a person up and set me straight. Have a great day, Debi

Hey Debi...ya, this is where the 'ol "don't compare yourself to others" statement comes in, right? But, hard not to I know. I think Pam had a great point - height! Also, as my psych pointed out to me yesterday, we also need to understand how being overweight and for how long affects our body. Our bones are larger and so are our organs. We have to understand this to also understand why one woman's size 8 is not anothers. Hang in there, you will achieve your goals, and I say if the clothes fit and feel good - then you're doing just fine!!!
