I don't know if you caught my little thread that I had been non compliant with my vitamins & supplements....yep, ME!!

When I was 3 months post op and was very faithful with my vitamins & supplements...and my labs were good.  I gradually got ****y and let things slide by.  Well, my 6 month post op labs were good...and so were my 9 month post op labs...ahaha I thought, I'm beating the system, I don't need my vitamins & supplements.  Then my one year check up, my surgeon said I had the worst calcium and B-12 levels he has ever seen during his practice.  I promised I would begin what I had started!
That was Friday...so I have been faithful all weekend and these past couple of days...

Yesterday I was so sick with 103.4 temp and I was very dehydrated..hubby took me to the ER.  They gave me 3 bags of IV fluids and ran every test you could think of.  I thought it was kind of weird that I was getting an EKG and a heart sonogram...for a fever and dehydration???  My heart was pumping like I had ran a marathon.  I didn't really notice, this is what the ER doc was telling me.  He even brought in a cardiac doc.  Once they were both filled in on my gastric bypass history..they told me I may have damaged my heart ...just because I was non compliant with my vitamins.  The cardiac doc began explaining how the B-1 & B-12 vitamins play a very important role in keeping your heart healthy when you are rapidly losing weight.  My body has began attacking my heart and stealing the good fat and nutrition that it holds to try and run the rest of my body.   HOLY CRAP!!!!!

I have to go and visit the cardiac specialist to see if I have done any irreversible damage to my heart.

I'm trying to sit down with you here and give you a "HEART TO HEART"....if you don't give your body the vitamins and nutrition it needs, it will take it from somewhere else...your bones, your muscles and especially your heart.

Don't be a fool like I was!!!  These vitamin & supplements are not a game..it's for the rest of your life!!!!  Not just the rest of your life ...but for your life.

just wanted to share,
Dawn

THANKS FOR THE HEADS-UP!!! I do know how important B12 is---like VITAL for brain function---but it can be too easy to neglect taking vitamins and minerals until you feel crummy. Compliance of vitamin- and mineral-taking is absolutely NECESSARY!

What a scary thing for her to hear!  I take my vitamins religiously.  Never did before, but when I signed on for this surgery, I knew there were rules, and darn good reasons for following them - even if I didn't know just what those reasons were, I just made up my mind to do what I'm told.  That I was making a commitment for the rest of my life, not just for a while.  I'm so sorry she's going through this - but so grateful for the reminder to do what I've been told.  Sometimes being obedient vs. rebelious is a GOOD thing!
