OT - puppy update
Well, Sherman is now 4 1/2 weeks old. The whole crew comes running to "here puppies" its so cute! They're starting on soft puppy food, mom is getting tired of nursing.
And sorry, no pictures yet.
My dilema is this...can I deal emotionally with a dog that for the next 10 years every time I look at him reminds me of Chef Rob?
I guess I have some time to decide, but its tough. My son (15) would be absolutely thrilled to have a hunting dog, our 3 yr old standard poodle would love to have a playmate as our 10+ yr old cat isn't quite as much fun as she used to be. The cat has her claws, and has successfully trained two puppies since coming to live with me over 7 years ago...she actually likes playing with dogs!
Then I think about...do I really want a 50 lb poodle, a 8 lb cat and a possibly as much as 70 lb lab racing thru my house playing tag! I have no breakables left, but the noise!
None of my cons out weigh the pros except for that emotional one if we were to end our relationship...would Sherman be a comfort or a painful reminder?
I have a lot to think about.
That IS quite the dilema... I think if the pros outweigh the cons WITHOUT the Chef Rob factor, then how can you find a way to put a positive spin ON the Chef Rob factor?
Well, first off, don't assume this will end. And if it does end, don't assume it will be Chef Rob that ends it. I don't know you well, but if I recall, you have been single for a while, and have been quite happy, perhaps even surprised? that this relationship took off in the first place! So let's say you give Sherman a home (LOVE that name, by the way!!). And you & Chef Rob call it quits some day down the road. Will Sherman be a constant source of heartache? Or could he be the spark that reminds you that you ARE a desirable woman, deserving of a man in your life if you so choose? Maybe I'm stretching here 'cuz I LOVE pooches, but if you can find a way to make a "maybe negative" into a "definitely positive", then I say GO FOR IT!
Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
coming from someone with 4 dogs, 1 cat, 3 snakes, 1 lizard, a guinea pig, a kid, and a husband, go for it! Sherman will be a reminder of Sherman, not necessarily Rob. And if you do end up with "just " Sherman, what's so bad about that. He is his own dog, and if nothing else a reminder of the good times. Give the poor pooch a chance, your heart already has decided!
