I just realized that I will have my "little friend" the week of my surgery.  I should of thought of that when I scheduled my surgery, but honestly I was just so excited to get it scheduled I didnt think of it. My question is, do you think I should post pone the surgery another week because of this? Probably best I just call the nurse huh??  She would be able to tell me if this complicates things or not...but thought I would try here too, sometimes it's hard to get a hold of Darla. Let me know what you think. Thanks ~Jodi~

I don't think that should be a problem.  This ? was been the subject before, and the answer, if I recall, is that nursing staff is used to this. The surgery is not 'female' oriented and thus the doc doesn't go there. They might make you use pads instead of tampons, especially since you are catheterized. I might be wrong, but this is what I remember.  Hope it helps...

Call the surgeon and let them know.....could be you'll be so excited/stressed/emotional you won't get it on time anyway! Let them decide...yeah it would be an added hassle, but they'll know whats best!

You can call the nurse - but surgery seems to bring on your period anyway.  You'll read about that alot on the boards.  I wasn't due for mine, but sure enough - I got it in the hospital.  They can deal with it.  Bring your own pads - I don't think they'll let you use tampons - and if you bring your own you don't have to use their awful scratchy "diapers" they have there!

I had mine when I had my surgery and when the nurse calledthe night before surgery to give final instructions one of the questions she asked me was when the last time was I had it. I told her now and she said ok and left it at that. I think just to make sure there was no possibility of me being pregnant.

I had my special friend pop up just in time for surgery.  Just make sure you tell the nurse they don't want you to have anything in (TMI) during surgery.  They give you something to wear for that. Good Luck!

I had this issue to but by the time I was in the liquid diet the weight changes slow it down and it was there but barely so I just told the nurses and everything was ok.  Give the nurse a call and then when you check in tell the nurse too and I'm sure they will have no issues no need to wait another week.

I hear a lot of us get our monthly friend right after surgery anyway.  I did, which was 2 weeks early.  I'd only suggest bringing your own supply of products.  The stuff in the hospital must have been saved up from the 70's. Good luck with your surgery. Kelly

I had mine when I had my gall bladder removed a million years ago. They just put a pad type thing under me (TMI I know). I am sure they deal with this all the time. I agree bring your own stuff. Good luck to ya!

Yeah, Darla's hours are limited, Tuesday's and Thursday's are usually the best to catch her.  I don't think it's an issue though.  If I remember right, pretty much the only things that will put a stop to surgery would be getting very sick with the flu or some such thing, and possibly having bad blood work.
