Newbie Questions

Good morning, My stomach has finally stopped doing flip-flops.  I'm really excited.  Thanks for all the welcoming, loving, kind words yesterday. I've come up with a couple of questions for this, oh so knowledgable, group.  I begin the 10 day LPD on Monday, any advise?

Is there anything I should have on hand at home before surgery that will come in handy when I get back home?

I’m nervous about nausea after surgery, how soon before I feel normal again?

I’m going to Florida (spring break-condo w/kitchen) one month post-op (no bikini yet ), any suggestions for being away from home?  From what I read, I’ll probably be on pureed food; I’ve thought maybe I should buy one of those Bullet food processors to bring with? THANK YOU!!

Sandy, Welcome and congrats on the quick date.  The LPD really isn't as bad as it seems like it should be.  My advice is simply not to cheat.  You can do it.  We all have and you can too.  How long will you be in Florida?  The bullet is nice, but not essential.  I found it very difficult to get a variety of pureed foods that I actually found appealing, so I certainly would not have needed a bullet at that time.  I really enjoy it now mainly for smoothies, however. Water, water and more water!! That is what will get rid of the nausea after surgery faster than anything else. You almost can't drink enough, so remember to take constant sips. It will help you flush the fat away and help you recover faster than ever. I drank a lot of Broth afterwards so I had chicken bullion on hand. But your taste buds will so out of whack when you come home from surgery that something you enjoy now you might not then. So I wouldn't stock up on too much yet. Even water, I could only stomach my Minneapolis City tap water and Smar****er. Everything else tasted like bottled chemicals to me.

I lived on protein shakes, Mrs. Grass soup with the golden egg (strain out the noodles) -- my favorite --, jello and crystal lite in my water (2 parts water to one part crystal lite recipe (otherwise too sweet).  I tried all kinds of strained soups but the Mrs. Grass is to die for -- and takes away the craving -- I think it is all the sodium!!!  I didn't do sf popcycles but a lot of people did -- counts as fluid too.  After surgery I couldn't look at jello, the soup was still really good, had Carnation SF breakfast mix, and more protein shakes and skim milk.   Don't buy a lot of something cause your taste buds change after surgery and you might not like it later. Don't dread the liquid diet.  Look at it as a challenge.  The first few days are awful.  But try and turn the TV off and keep busy.  The time will fly by.  Adhering to the diet is very important and makes surgery easier.  Lots and lots of broth.

I found it helpful to bring chapstick to the hospital.  And get up and walk.  The nurses didn't encourage me to wal****il the next day, which made for a horrible night.  But once the day nurse came on duty she booted me out of bed and made me get up.  That was at 8am.  I was discharged and feeling good enough to go home around 1pm.  Walk, walk, walk. If you get a chance, try and make it to one of the scheduled coffees.  Otherwise be sure to ask questions on this board.  This has helped me tremendously.  Even just reading posts helps.  This is a great group of friends. I will say that I never thought my taste for foods would change.  It did.  Shop often (it helps to get out and walk) and don't purchase too much too soon.  What you like before surgery won't be the same after surgery. You'll do great.  Welcome aboard. Kelly
