So do your food fantasies ever go away????

All I think about and even dream about is food lately.  I'm even watching the Food channel (I have no idea why) .  All I want is some Pizza, a Big Mac, Fries, a shake,  I could go on and on.    I know this is just head hunger and part of the grieving process of saying good bye to some food that I thought was my friend for years but only hurt me.  I just hope the food fantasies go away soon.  I think my friends and family don't even want to talk to me because I'm obsessed.  I think maybe its due to just having extra anxiety now and not being able to take my anti-depressant crushing it up right now isn't working so well I don't think I'm getting the full dose that I need.  I'm hoping once I go back to work in 2 weeks things will get better.  Ok I'm turing the channel no more food tv!!!!

Hi Kathy! It absolutely does get better.  I remember when I was new to WLS I would dream about eating food to the point of actually chewing in my sleep. And I hated night time tv because of all the food commercials. (Try not to watch the food channels...it's like being on a diet and hanging out in a bakery....somehow makes things feel worse.)    Now it doesn't happen at all.  I find now that when I think I really have a craving for something and actually eat it, it's not as good as I thought it would be.   Hang in there...this too shall pass!!!   Amy

Food was such a HUGE part of my life but after two months out-it really isn't anymore.  There are days that I REALLY  crave something and usually if I have been eating well and behaving my diet, I indulge in a few bites.

It's no darn wonder we're all in trouble with our weight-there are SOOOO many commercials and eating shows on tv.....it's HORRIBLE!!!  lol Thank goodness for all you specail people-no one else really understands!! Blessings!!

Mine did.  Although it hits every once in a while.    My biggest issue is cigarettes.  I still crave those...more than food and its been 4 years (I do sneak one every once in a blue moon or I'd go nuts).

The food channel is considered food porn!  Just like all the commercials for restaurants after surgery.  You don't seem to notice them as much pre-surgery - but after WLS - OMG it's like they've decided to only run food porn in your house during commercials.  It's crazy how much we are inundated with images of food throughout an hours worth of TV. Turn the channel - go get a glass of water, do some sit ups, write a thank you note to a friend, read a book, check out UTube, go for a walk, do anything to distract yourself and remind yourself why you're on this journey!  Eventually it will get better and you'll think about it less.  Then you can really enjoy each and every bite you put into your mouth. Good luck!

It gets better but it never goes away. Which antidepressant are you taking? I am on prozac, and the pills were small enough for me to take immediately after surgery without crushing or emptying them.

HIJACKING the subject: I have a Jeff Foxworthy CD called 'Have Your Loved Ones Spayed  or Neutered". I think of you two simultaneously with your new motto of having your pet fixed or spayed! ((HUG)) **SUE**

It's so funny that you mention the Big Mac and fries!!! pre-op I never was huge on McD's but after surgery I would have sold my husband for a bite of a big mac and a few fresh hot fries!!! LOL Well.. the hubs is safe and I haven't indulged and I have even found that my tastes have changed! ( I was really hoping for that one!!!) The couple of times that I've taken a taste.. literally just one bite... there have been several times where I spit it out because it didn't taste as delicious as I remembered it tasting! Hang in there hon... it gets better... remove yourself as often as possible from the temptation and keep reminding yourself why you did this in the first place.... remember how excited you were pre-op and of all the promises you made to yourself... remember what Sandy says... nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!

I know exactly what you are going through. I went through the same thing. The mind is a hard thing to fight. BUT it DOES get better. I still have food cravings; but not as often. So, hang in there!

I totally understand what you are going through. I kept thinking about donuts, Tacos, and pizza. I'm a month and a half out and it is getting better. The more new foods I start the more satisfied I am. And I don't need much to get full. But still want a taco although if you make the healthy way there not bad for ya. And I made a hamburger crust pizza and it was really great. Hang in there.
