I'm doing it! (and a question)

Wow, I am so proud of myself this morning!  I weighed myself and I am now down 12 lbs since my consult in mid Dec.  I am feeling better already!  And my question is how do you celebrate birthdays?  In my family, everything has always revolved around food.  Every birthday, holiday--you know how it is.  Well, today is my birthday and as usual my DH and I are going out to eat.  I am going to make good choices.  What do you all do now that you are banded or have RNY and cakes are out of the question.  My darling MIL always gets a cake for birthdays.  Bless her heart, she made a low cal, low fat one for me today!  She does get it and is really trying to support me.  She is so excited that I am taking this step in my life.  I am just looking for ideas now that the focus is going to have to change for me.  We always have a super bowl party with all the snacks.  Tonight is going to be hard for me.

My birthday cake, for my entire life, has been angel food.   So, since my surgery, I have a super super skinny slice - NO FROSTING, with fresh fruit! Yum!

Congrats on the 12lb loss!  Did you have wls already or are you pre-op?  I don't know what to tell you about cake, as I've not encountered that yet.  But I do love the sf popsicles and sf creamsicles.  A nice treat and I don't dump on either, low cal, etc. What a great mil...it's nice to have support from family-really helps a lot in the process. Good luck Debi

I am still pre-op.  My consult was mid Dec and I am guesstimating a surgery date in April/May.  I have to do the 3 months structured weight loss.

First of all Happy Birthday. If you are still pre-op then you can still enjoy a little cake for your b-day. My DH got me some reduced fat sugar free Dilly Bars from DQ I could only eat half of one but it really was a treat for my b-day. Hang in there you can do it.

Happy Birthday to you!! I hope you have a great day. When we celebrate birthdays at work I always get some sugar free & fat free ice cream treat so those that are on a diet or like me can have a little something.  I have no had my birthday yet since WLS but I have always had a DQ birthday cake ever since I was little. So this year will be a little different.

Enjoy your day and congrats on the weight loss.

God Bless, Angela

Happy Birthday! and congrats on your pre-surgery weight loss!  Keep up those kind of habits and you'll be a stellar loser after WLS!!! As for your birthday plans - why don't you celebrate with a brisk walk outdoors.  Tell your family that the best birthday present you could ever get was their love and support as you go through this surgery and that it starts with great habits such as getting your body moving.  That way you can move away from the table and get your body moving and grooving! You've got to move it, move it!!! Have a blessed day!

Happy Birthday!   I eat a very small peice of b-day cake.   I can't have a whole peice or I will dump.  As for eating out, I have chicken, hambuegers, steak (nothing with bread) and veg and I always bring food home or John eats what I don't.

Happy Birthday!!! I can handle a couple tiny bites of cake minus the frosting. Also, you could make homemade (from scratch) cake; but substitute splenda for the sugar. That's a thought.  Lori
