Hi my name is Kelly 33 from new hope.  I am hoping to have the lap-band surgery done at fairview southdale.  I dont know when because I dont know how long it takes and how long the wait is!  IS there anyone else out there that has had this done at fairview southdale and could you tell me about your surgeon.   I have decided that I really need to do this for myself.  I had a little girl March 2007 and because of my weight I had complcations that resulted in her being born 8 weeks early and being very small for her gestational age...she was 2 lbs 14oz at birth.  I had gestastional diabetes, extreme high blood pressure, pre-eclamisa and help syndrome.   Thankfully my little peanut was a big fighter and had no complcations.  It really scares me to think of not being able to be here for here because of my weight and not being able to do the things a mommy should do with her child.   She is almost a year old and I cant imagine running after a 2 year old being this heavy.  SO the time for change is now!!    My husband and I want more children in the future (3 years from now) but I dont want to be pregnant that heavy ever again.  I am just looking for people who have had the surgery and people in the process.   Thanks Kelly

HI!!!  I went to Fairview Southdale!  I had RNY with Dr. Pierce.  THe staff there is sooooo awesome and helpful!  Dr. Pierce is amazing, he is a very kind, caring man!  I met Dr. Luguana(sp?) while in the hospital and he was great too!  Dr. Benn was voted by his peers to be the top doc!  So, Whoever you chose, I am sure you'll be happy.  CONGRATS on making the decision NOW instead of missing out on your precious babies life!  I wish I would have done this WAY sooner!  I have soooooo much more energy to run after and play with my kids!!!   WELCOME to the boards and here's to your new life and journey!!!!

Congrats to you for making your mind up now and doing something about it.  I was banded in October and so far I am very happy with the band.  I wish I would have done it sooner.  We don't lose as fast as the RNY'ers but that's ok.  I just know that without my band, the 40lbs that I have lost would still be stuck to my body.  WLS is a life change and it sounds like you are ready for a change.  I wish you luck on your WLS journey.  Come back often and ask plenty of questions.

Hello, Kelly and welcome to the boards!  I had a RNY with Dr. Benn at Fairview Southdale in March of 2005. They have an awesome team and I know you will be very happy working with them. Best of luck to you on your journey!

Hello Kelly and welcome! I went through Park Nicollet and had RNY a little over a month ago and they were great. I don't know much about fairview, but I want to say through Park it took about 6 months. I had pre-eclamisa with both my pregnancies and the high blood pressure didn't go away with the second. That was when I knew it was time to make a change. I was goin for the Lapband bbut when I found out either surgery could be reversed I went with RNY. I ahve lost over 40lbs in the last month and my blood pressure is getting better everyday. I think the whole process took about 5 months from beginning to end and I didn't have to decide which surgery I wanted until the end. Good luck in your journey.

Hi Kelly welcome to the boards. You have certainly have come to a good place for questions and support. I had the RNY at Fairview in Dec. with Dr. Benn. I absolutely love DR. Benn he is such a great guy and really knows what he is doing. The program at Fairview is great and they walk you through each step of the way. I started my process in August of 2007. I had to do 3 months of structured weight loss for my insurance so they would approve the surgey. So 4 months later I had the surgery.  So glad to hear that your little girl made it through just fine. Sounds like it was a scary experience. I sure wish you all the best on your journey. Please feel free to come on the boards ask questions and if you can make it to any coffee groups I would suggest going. The coffee groups are such a great opportunity to learn from others and share experiences.  Best wishes.
God Bless, Angela
