So hi everyone. I am enduring this cold CRAP with a smile on my face--yeah, because it's frozen on my face! LOL

Kidding. Kidding. Well, not really, but anyhoo... I have been having problems with constipation. Now my RN wants me to start taking an iron supplement. Won't this back me up even more?!? I'm afraid to start it because of the lack of poo issue!

Should I follow her advice and swig back some MOM every other day? ACK I just don't know what to do!

Howdy ~ If you can handle OJ with vitamin D, that usual helps things move along and helps with iron absortion.  There is also fiber supplements that are safe. I wish you all the best on the

Doesn't OJ have too much sugar for us to consume?? I'm contemplating Benefiber, but have yet to venture into that section of the store... fear it will make me feel old

There are a couple of OJ's out there that have less sugar.  Naturally squeezed, with out added sugars is the best.  I, myself can only handle about 4 oz without feeling icky.   Benefiber... OLD...  Silly...  Maybe you could have someone go buy it for you.. :-) Have a great day!

It depends on what type of iron you take on whether it will plug you up.  Ferrous sulfate is one known to plug you up, besides it doesn't absorb as well...try a carbonyl iron or a chelated one - Vitalady.com has a carbonyl iron called Tender Iron, I'm not sure what Vitron-C is - it already has the vitamin C in it that helps with absorption.   That you can find at CVS I've heard.  I use Solgar Gentle Iron (a chelated one) and it doesn't cause constipation.  I find that on the internet.   Adding fiber is a great idea to ward off the poopie problems...but make sure you're taking a good form of iron that is absorbable. Note - I can't take Benefiber..it causes so much gas I nearly blew the roof off.  Obviously it doesn't do that to everyone, but keep it in mind if you start using it and can't figure out why you have the toots. Good Luck!

try vitalady.com I get my magnesium citrate capsules there, and I SWEAR by them to keep me regular.  I take one capsule in the morning, and two at night and I never get blocked up. I take Vitron-C for my iron and have no problems, in fact, I take it twice a day! Good luck!

You just need a chelated iron....talk to your pharmacist, they can tell you what to buy to avoid the constipation.

Miralax is a gift from the gods! You could also take Colace which is a stool softener and is considered safe to take longer term. There are always the individually wrapped prunes as well, but I just can't convince myself to turn into a nursing home resident yet ( I remember we fed them to all the residents every meal when I worked as an aide) lol Good luck, is sucks to be "stuck up" if you know what I mean.

Ditto on the Miralax...it is my miracle!  I use it every day and now my bathroom visits are no longer wrenching!  I'm "normal" again!
