Ab Challenge

Tonight I started the group weight loss program at the Y.  I'm so excited to learn so much during the next 6 weeks - not to mention seeing the results of a fitter body. Anyway, I thought I would try and share what I learn.  Tonight our trainer gave us a challenge to help us concentrate on working our abs.  As most of you know, building ab strength means your core is stronger - which helps with so mu*****luding balance, agility, etc.   The challenge he gave us is that when we were driving every time we see a red car we were to tighten our abs.  For those that don't drive much, you could also apply this to your job.  Everytime someone says your name or you get an email (or make up some other trigger) tighten your abs. It may not seem like much, but over time it can really help you build those muscles. It's kind of like parking at the back of the parking lot - those few extra steps add up after a while. Plus, when you pull in your abs you tend to sit up straighter. Good luck with it!  More nuggets to come...

Oh Tracy, THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this with us all!  I simply can't do a membership deal right now, so learning vicariously through you will be FANTASTIC!!!  And I'm glad to hear of this being one of the first tips you were given, 'cuz I started doing this some back in December - only I do crunches in bed at nigh****ching the news and Jay Leno.  Hold for 10, relax for 20.  (My hubby FINALLY asked me last week - "what are you doing, anyway???"  HA!) Never thought of adding them to my drive or workday - I WILL START THIS TOMORROW!  For every cow I pass, one good crunch. For every song that plays on K102 in the am, one good crunch.  For every manic Nordic ski coach that calls me wanting to know when we're gonna get more snow for our trails, I'll bash my head into my monitor.  (okay, I just couldn't find a good way to tie that in...)

Thanks for sharing, Tracy! Gym membership is not in my budget at the moment--so this is a great start! Gals could also extend this to do 'Kegels'--tightening up the muscles in the pubic area, so when we get old(er) we don't have incontinence problems.
