Feeling blue today and wanting to eat. Got some more bad news on my BIL and I feel like I want to snack all day. I am trying to tell myself that food IS NOT going to make me feel better, and that it won't do me any good to snack all day. HELP!

Sorry to hear that you have gotten more bad news on you BIL. It is certainly not easy to deal with stuff they way we are used to by eating our emotions away.   If you are feeling like you need to crunch on something, grab a carrot, chew some sf gum, shoot rubber bands at your co-workers. Hugs to you Laura!!

Thanks for the hugs! Rubber bands at co-workers sounds like a blast, I think I might try that!

Laura, Sorry to hear that you've received more bad news.  I will definitely say some prayers for you and your family. As for your ass kickin - you've got to give yourself a little leeway here - you're going through some pretty big things right now and yes in the past you've turned to food - that habit was built over many years and you can't expect it to change over night.  So be easy on yourself - allow yourself one snack - but before you allow yourself to eat it - try drinking a bottle of water first or go for a 5 minute walk to see if you can distract yourself from the urge.  If not, allow yourself to eat the snack - because at least you tried to implement new habits before giving into old ones.  (BOY do I need to take some of my own advice!!) You're doing great Laura - you look fabulous and you are absolutely MELTING.  This is a tough time right now - don't make it more difficult by beating yourself up. Take care and call me if you would like to talk! Love ya girlie!

Thanks Tracy. I suppose I am like everyone in fear of failing, but I will try to be easier on myself. Thanks for your prayers, I'm sure your Mom and Dad will hear soon too, because my Grandma was going to put John on the prayer chain. Thanks again

Laura First I want to say how sorry I am about your BIL. I will continue to keep him and your family in my thoughts. Second last night it was great to finally meet you! You look so healthy and even more beautiful in person than you do in your pictures on the boards. I know the route of emotional eating as I've done it myself for years and years, but while we can't break these habits overnight I agree with Tracy we've got to be mindful of this affliction and work to break it by implementing other habits.. better choices.  Work out... take your frustration and anger and pain out on the machines at the gym, get those endorphins going to boost your mood and help you cope. start a journal either online or just a simple notebook, scribble it all out so your not holding those emotions inside yourself letting it chip away at you and cause you to go running for the cookies. and if these things don't work call a friend, a family member call one of us! Thats what we are here for, to help each other along this journey, to pick each other up when we need it, to give us the arse kicking we need when we need it and to share the joys, wows, sorrows and victories with. Point is... your not alone  Love and hugs to you doll Lisa

Hi Laura~ I'm so sorry that news on your BIL isn't good.  I agree with Dana and Tracy---try to find some distractions to food, but  also try to plan snacks into your day.  Make the snacks healthy ones--like Tracy said---carrots or celery with low-fat dip.  If you're really craving sweets, how about a 100-calorie treat? Just eat it slowly and concentrate on it---savour the flavour. How about beef jerky?  Good  protein and 3 oz. is actually quite a pile!   You can snack, enjoy, and still follow the program, guilt-free.  Do make sure you get your fluids in. My prayers for your family.  (((HUG))) **SUE**
