Dehydration...Drink your water, watch for the signs!!
I didn't really think dehydration was my problem. I have been drinking my water, it goes down so much easier warm that I have been doing great with getting it in now. However, I had been working out like crazy.
So, after 3 weeks of working out 6 days a week and working out hard all of those days I ended up dehydrating myself and not even realizing it. I haven't been feeling the greatest the last 2 weeks. I worked out a couple of times last week but otherwise I haven't had any energy to. I got tingles all over my body sometimes. Not always, but here and there throughout the day I would get them. I didn't notice the concentrated urine until today when it had to go in a cup for the lab. It's been getting diluted in the toilet and I never noticed it being dark. I also dropped about 10lbs in a week or so. I don't think I have lost that fast all along, but didn't really think anything of it. A drastic weight loss is a sign of dehydration as well.
Finally today I was feeling nauseated and stomach cramping and tingles all over and it was worse than it has been. Right after work I walked across the skyway to my clinic and was able to be seen right away. We think the cramping is gas from the beans in the chili I have been having all week for lunch. I need to stay away from beans for a little bit. Already my stomach is feeling better this evening.
I am to drink gatorade in place of half of my water intake for the next day to help rehydrate myself. They drew some blood and if there was anything abnormal they were going to call me. I haven't heard anything so no news is good news. If there is something not so major they'll contact me on Monday.
Moral of the story....watch your water intake especially if you're working out a lot. The signs of dehydration aren't always easy to piece together I have learned.
I think I might drink a small bottle of gatorade after my workouts to help prevent dehydration once I get myself rehydrated here.

Wow Alayna, who knew. I'm on lasix and that is designed to dehydrate. A couple of weeks ago I got really dehydrated because I had a fever and just laid down for an afternoon. The fever, mixed with lasix, mixed with laying down dehydrated me beyond what my body could take. On one of my trips to the bathroom I fainted...I didn't hit anything on my way down (thank God) and I'm not sure how long I was out. When I came to my hands were locked up and my legs were starting. I managed to crawl back to bed and get some hydration and potassium. I never saw it coming, but now I feel I may recognize the signs.
Good advice...

Wow Paul, that's scary!! Are you still on lasix? How do you keep your body hydrated while the lasix wants to dehydrate you? Have you been doing a little gatorade as well to help with the electrolytes?
I haven't seen you in awhile, how are things going? Can you make it to another MG coffee soon? How's that band treatin' ya?

When they told me to drink the gatorade I was worried I would dump on it. However, last night I drank about half of a bottle of gatorade, so approximately 16oz and I only felt better! No dumping.
I must not have been that dehydrated. I couldn't believe how much better I felt once I started drinking the gatorade. Still replacing half of my water intake today with it and I think I will go buy the smallest bottles they have of it and have one after working out in the future.
Do we risk dehydration so much more because we're not absorbing water from our foods as much? Water is mainly absorbed in your colon and that is untouched, so I have never understood the dehydration risk with RNY. It's there though, and my how easy is it to get dehydrated!
