OT - Puppy in my future!!!

If anyone has read my blog here, you already know that Rob's chocolate lab had puppies two weeks ago today. Their dad may either be a buddies black lab (who jumped thru a closed truck window and under the fence for this chick) or a neighborhood Newfie that some pranksters thought would be funny to put in his backyard overnight and he didn't know until the next day. Anyway....These puppies are looking more newfie everyday!  They were very shiny black the first week, but now are getting fluffier looking....not lab like at all!  And their snouts are huge! So, very long story, made longer...Rob has teased me that my son needs a "real" dog (we have a prissy standard poodle) and one may end up on my doorstep!  Umm.....no. Well, I guess I'm getting a puppy.  I'm in love...the biggest boy is already the size of about a 4 week old lab and is only 2 weeks old!  His name is up in the air...but he looks like a little Sherman Tank, so Sherman is what we've been calling him. Thank goodness for that new rebate check coming....I'll have to fence in my backyard this spring! Oh, and things are going fantastic with Rob too!  After his declaration of like and caring this past sunday he's calling every day, sometimes twice!!!!! - Tina

Standard Poodles aren't prissy.  They are so smart!

There's nothing more fun than a new pup.  Clear everything off the low tables you don't want to be broken.  Your 'pup' will out weigh you before you know it. Have you ever had a giant dog before?  Get some expert advice.  There are things you can do to reduce foot splay and manage their growth spurts for proper bone development.  They also have a long clumsy klutzy period compared to your poodle.  I think it's because they don't quite realize how big they are.  And lots of training.  Starting now!  There's nothing worse than a huge dog that's out of control. That said, there's nothing more fun than a big dog.  Yours will probably be huge.  I know one neuf-lab, a boy, and I think he weighs @ 180.  But he is probably overfed! Best of luck!

Wally (my standard) is only prissy in that he LOVES to be groomed and prances around like a show horse afterwards!  He's so smart...I don't know what I'll do with a big ol lummax!!!! I no longer will be able to have knicknacks or candles! Good thing I haven't carpeted the house yet!!!!!  I'll be spending the carpet money on fencing the yard! I've had beastly big dogs before....so I'm ready!

I never met a puppy I didn't love!  We keep talking about getting Hazel a pet.... may happen yet!  She's the biggest pooch we've ever had, but at @ 77 lbs, she's no where's NEAR as big as a Newfie!!!   Honestly?  I can't even imagine.  Hazel can haul Travis across our laminate floor like he's somebody's blankie.  A Newfie, he could probably RIDE! Have fun with the new fur baby!  Share pics!

Poopers (that's what I call all dogs) are the BEST!  I became a dog owner/companion for the first last fall and I love EVERY minute of it. Have fun with the new little guy!   Oh and the big guy too!
