I am at the beginning stages of this process and have to go through the whole 6 months of diet and exercise and I want to do it RIGHT so I get approved. What did you do for it, and did your surgeon's office help you with it or did your PCP do it? Also, who was your surgeon?

My surgeon was Dr. Darren Glass. His office is in Sartell, MN.  My PCP was the one that monitored my pre surgery, 6 month weight loss diet. I was lucky and had previous records of attempts and I didn't have to do another 6 months. I had plenty of information. They don't care when the 6 months was they just want to see you did it at some point and it was monitored by your PCP. I did the weight loss at a fitness center and my doctor wrote a letter saying she recommended it. She did some follow ups with me at that time and that did it. Good Luck and Welcome to the MN board!! I am doing it through my surgeon with a nutritionist at his clinic ~ Dr Ikrummadin Uof MN ~ Depends on your insurance, I have BCBS and they said I could do LA weight Loss as long as I weighed in w/ my Dr's office. Too bad I didn't do that a year or so ago when I was doing LA! Good Luck to ya!

I saw the nutritionist at my surgeons's ofice for six months.  She weighed me and we went over the things that I needed to know in order to be successful post op.  My PCP knew that I was pursuing surgery, but I didn't have to check in with her each month.  Hope this helps! Jeanne

I am going to the dietician at my surgeon's office - mainly because I felt 100% comfortable with her. I did not care for past visits with the dietician at my PCP's office and they only have the one, so there wasn't much choice. I believe either is fine (surgeon's office or PCP's office), as long as it is monitored consecutively for 6 months.
