Deb, you can't fix stupid. But you CAN complain about it, and request a phone consult with someone KNOWLEGABLE so you get your questions answered!!   I always thought protien requirements were based on height.  I'm 5'11" and have been told 54 grams/day, minimum.  More = better.  So is 40 right?  Doubtful...

Basing protein on height is accurate.  For people with no malabsorbtion.  So that doesn't include anyone who had the RNY or DS. Most RNY people need 60 to 80 gr protein per day.  Most DSers need 100 to 125.

I've found over time there are a huge number of support professionals at the U who know nothing about WLS.  I've been given incorrect information over and over again.  I can't tell you how many times I've also had to explain I didn't have the RNY and how my surgery is different. I hope you call your docs office and get the answers to your questions.

I agree you need to call and see if you can get an appointment with someone that knows about WLS.  AND tell them you're not paying for BOTH. Are you eating 1/2 c throughout the day or in one sitting?  The PNC program says 1/2 c at 6 months - not 9 weeks??  That seems like a ton of food right now.  In my program (Mexico) I was still on soft foods at 9 weeks - not meat.  I know all programs are different, but it sounds like you need a second opinion. You have every right to vent and even if you don't go back for this appt - definitely request a WLS certified doc or nurse for your next appt.  Your success counts on it.  Not to mention how much money they have earned from you having surgery there! Good luck!

The nut I usually see, put me on real food at 6 weeks, and up to 1/2c at a sitting.  I don't usually eat that much, but sometimes I can.  I can tolerate a lot of food, but there is so much that upsets the old pouch, so I'm very careful about what I eat. Thanks for your advice...

I'm three months out and PNC program has us at 1/4 cup a sitting and until 3 months, limited food and certainly not all meat.  Beef is the hardest to process.  Ask the doctor to call you back to answer your questions since they couldn't provide you with anyone who couldn't answer your questions. Sorry you had a bad visit.....XXOO
