Nerological complications HELP!

Ok I am not ussually a poster but I need some advice.  I am out 7mo and down 129 pounds with only 21 to go.  On Thursday my left leg had a numb patch on the skin now I live in MN so I figured frost bit but it didn't get red and then the numnbess started to spread last night I couldn't feel the skin being touched from my knee down so after quite a bit of harrassment from my mother I went in.  Turn out I have mononeuropathies caused but nutrient deficits.  They took a bunch of blood and sent it to the Mayo clinic since the certain test they need to run can only be done there or at the U.  So I meet with them tomorrow and I still can't feel my leg oh and by the way I have hyperthyroidism.  I take my vitimins everyday and I follow the plan well.  I have done great and this is my first complications.  My surgen assures me this "just happens" to some people and she says with interveinous therapies/injections we sould be fine.  These may be short term or long term no way to tell yet.  I am scared guys they sent me home with liturture to reveiw and some people became permently disbabled from the nerve damage they endured!  They assured me that that PROBIBLY won'y happen since I caught it early but still!  Anyway let me know-Kim

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this.  I have no additional information about this, I didn't even know it was a possible complication, but I will pray that they are able to treat you and that this all clears up and goes away.  Please keep us posted.

What devastating news!  I am soo sorry!  You have done an amazing job with your tool!  I too at 9 months out had some issues (different then yours, but issues).  I was in the ER's and Hospitals.  I went in at 11 months for my year check up still with the issues.  My surgeon told me that my body Probably just needed to check up and stablize.  I was Mayo bound.  Well, HE WAS right!!!  I no longer have to go to Mayo since the issue is resovling itself.  Read my profile blog.  SOOOOO, if Dr. Pierce says You should be fine, trust in him and enjoy the benefits of WLS.  I am not minimizing your situation by no means!  Just remember that your body has done a HUGE change in only 7 months!!!  Keep going to the doc, don't get frightenen, share with us so we can support you, AND it is a good thing that they caught it now!!!  Hang in there and HOPE for the best as we will!!!

Congrats on listening to your body and taking action.  Too many times, we'll just do the "wait and see" thing, but that isn't a good idea.  Just do what your doc says and have faith!

Nerve damage is a very scary thing. After my second surgery I had complications that have caused total numbness in the palm of my hand, middle finger, and one side of my ring finger. I also have numbness from mid thigh to below my left knee, even the dr. doesn't know what that is from. Cold seems to make is worse, and sometimes in addition to numbness, I get some weird creepy crawlie sensations. The weird thing is that your body seems to adjust to the feelings, and after a while I do not notice it nearly as much as I did before. You did good getting checked, yay for your mom harassing you into going! As long as your Dr. seems to be optimistic, you should be too. Continue to research, knowledge is the best defense to these unforseen complications! And keep up the good work on the weight loss, remember vitamins and supplements and keep us updated.

Hi there I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. It is really scary when things happen and the docs can't figure it out. Sending you healing hugs and keeping you and the docs in my prayers that they figure this out for your. Just curious, are you keeping up with your B12? I know WLS people who have nerve issues because of this. Hugs Peggy

Wow! I'm sorry to hear of this. I know that there are certain vit/minerals that if you are deficient you can get this. And our bodies don't absorb vites/mins as well anymore. I wish you luck with everything. I'll keep you in my prayers.  Lori
