UPDATE on my Ouchie Pouchy

Boy have I been taught a lesson I don't want to EVER repeat and am posting so none of you have to go through it either.   At 1:00 am this morning I was still in pretty bad pain from my 'pork chop incident' - see earlier post.  My pouch was still over stuffed from my dinner at 6:00 pm. I also think that the pork chop was just too much for my pouch.   Aside from feeling over stuffed, I also had a lot of discomfort at what seems to be the base of my esophagus and entrance to me pouch.  I thought maybe it was acid reflux or heartburn so I chewed up a few Tums.  Nothing seemed to help, but I managed to get back to sleep. When I got up this morning my pouch finally seemed to have passed all the pork chop, but I still had the nagging discomfort at the end of my esophagus.  I drank a couple of cups of coffee and that went down fine but the discomfort wouldn't go away.  I finally called Barb K to get another opinion.  She suggested that I try to eat something to see if it would get stuck or go through.  I have to say that I was terrified to eat anything, dreading that the other pain would come back, but I figured maybe some tiny bites of a cheesestick would be okay to try.  Thankfully, it all went through just fine.   It's now about 7:40 pm on Sunday and I still have the discomfort.  My assumption is that I must have stretched the heck out of the entrance to my pouch or even my whole pouch and that it's just trying to heal now.  Hopefully this will go away in a day or so, and if it doesn't I'll get in to the doctor. For now, moral of the story - EAT SLOW, Chew Chew Chew, Concentrate on eating!!! Oh and Pork probably isn't the best protein choice for my pouch!  Back to basics I go!!! Have a great week everyone!

Thanks for sharing with all of us!  You poor thing.  It sounds horrible and scary!  I'm glad you are back to the basics Tracy!   Many times those lows are what we need to get back to where we know we need to be.  I'm so sorry it's been so aweful.  Take care of you and that pouchie!   Lisa

Hi Tracy....I am glad that things are better now. Sounds like you had quite a night!! I have never gotten sick but I can say that pork doesn't like my pouchie either. I just never feel quite right when I eat it. It is kind of hard to describe. I made a pork roast this wekend. It was so tender it just fell apart. I ate a couple ounces and the same heavy feeling happened again. It just doesn't sit well. I can tolerate any other meat with no problems. I decided to stay away from pork too!! I shredded it all up and put it in the freezer. My kids love BBQ pork sandwiches so I will use it when they come to visit. Let me know if you hear anything more about this from your doctor. Have a great week sweetie pie!!!   Hug  connie d

Tracy, just a thought I had while reading this post - perhaps a day or two on a liquid diet would do you some good?  A) if you DID stretch or just push your pouch a little to far, it might help give it some time to just relax and heal.  B) It might help re-focus you on protein first, and thoughtful "eating"?  I don't know - just a thought. And for you?  a SMOOCH -  Give Me A Kiss

I'm just glad nothing was stuck -- cause then you would have HAD to go in to the ER.....I love Darla's suggestion -- try the liquid diet for a few days to let it heal.   XXOO  -- hope you feel better tomorrow!!!

You poor thing...That sounds so awful.  It's nice of you to share your experience with all of us so that we can hopefully avoid it.  I am ok with pork as long as it is tender, I have trouble with chicken and turkey more often than I don't. I agree that maybe the liquid diet would help ease your poor pouch!! Take care of you, Debi

Tracy, you have my sympathies. I hope never to go thru that...who am I kidding! I think I went through that for the first 4 months post surgery anytime I tried to eat food more solid than a cheese stick. Even still I have a hard time with meat or canned tuna. Oh well at least we are becoming healthier for all our efforts and grouchy pouches. I hope the pain goes away, but remains on your brain as a reminder of what not to do in the future. At least that is the way I look at life now. Kind of like, "I will never do that again" syndrome. Good luck, and by all means do the liquid protein and full liquids for a day or two to settle things back down.
