I do want the RNY.  I'm just trying to figure out why things change in an RNYer after two years.  What changes?   So, No lapband meetings, I've read all about it...I want the RNY..I just need to stop trying to figure it our or maybe when I see my Dr. I can ask that question!
The gherlin thing....okay that picture is hilarious sister!

Hey LJ I see that you've made your decision rock on! I just thought I'd add that I've seen where a patient will start off looking into the lapband but once they meet with the surgeon; based on the amount they need to lose the surgeon will sometimes recommend they go with the RNY instead. Hope all is well with you!

Hi, I don't post here much (I'm usually on the Unity Board), but I wanted to give you a lapband perspective. One of the reasons Lapband people are really getting going after two years where as RNY people are slowing down is because RNY people lose weight quickly over a short period of time and then stall (from what I've heard). Band people lose slowly, but have the ability to get fills as long as they need them,if they're slowing down, to tighten up the band and continue weight loss. So, if 3 years from now I'm feeling like I'm not losing anymore, I can go in for a fill again. There is really a misconception that band people don't lose as much as RNY people. That is just that...a misconception. Many, many band people get to their goal and are able to maintain it because of the ability to get fills in the future. One of the reasons I didn't chose RNY (other than I didn't want my insides cut up) was because I have a coworker who had RNY. She lost all of her weight quickly. Now, 5 years later, she has put almost all of it back on and doctors told her there isn't much she can do unless she wants to consider putting a band on now (something I've seen a number of people do...band after RNY) because her pouch is too stretched out.  Regarding the band eroding into the stomach...I've been on ObesityHelp.com and several other boards for almost 2 years now and I've never heard of this actually happening to anyone. I think it's one of those rare complications they have to mention, just like with any surgery.  If you do happen to want more information on lapband, go to the OH site for just lapband messages, or go to the Unity Hospital bariatric surgery message board. Well I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but what I've heard is that after several years (whether or not that magic number is "2", I don't know), RNY'ers and banders pretty much level out.  RNY = faster loss.  Band = more control over fills and restrictions (to a point, there is a top limit to how much a band can be filled, as I understand it.  Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.)

I think the MOST important thing to remember is that with either procedure, WE have the power to either respect our tool for the rest of our lives, or F*** it up big time, by NOT following the rules and respecting our tool.  Period.  This whole WLS thing should not be about how much weight we want to lose.  It should be about how we want the rest of our lives to change, to improve, as a result of weight loss.  It's a life-long thing - we don't get to slack off once we reach a certain number on the scale, we just have to learn how to maintain instead of gain.  We ALL know how to gain, right?  MAINTAINING may be the hardest part of this whole ride - I don't know, I'm not there yet.  But we're getting HOW to lose the weight with the assistance of our tool.  Maintaining it for the long haul?  That's gonna be a whole NEW life lesson!
