Well I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but what I've heard is that after several years (whether or not that magic number is "2", I don't know), RNY'ers and banders pretty much level out. RNY = faster loss. Band = more control over fills and restrictions (to a point, there is a top limit to how much a band can be filled, as I understand it. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.)
I think the MOST important thing to remember is that with either procedure, WE have the power to either respect our tool for the rest of our lives, or F*** it up big time, by NOT following the rules and respecting our tool. Period. This whole WLS thing should not be about how much weight we want to lose. It should be about how we want the rest of our lives to change, to improve, as a result of weight loss. It's a life-long thing - we don't get to slack off once we reach a certain number on the scale, we just have to learn how to maintain instead of gain. We ALL know how to gain, right? MAINTAINING may be the hardest part of this whole ride - I don't know, I'm not there yet. But we're getting HOW to lose the weight with the assistance of our tool. Maintaining it for the long haul? That's gonna be a whole NEW life lesson!
